  1. I don't know WHAT is going on with the formatting! I decided just to start a new post and repeat what is garbled above. 1) Sarco doesn't have them. 2) Numrich is "Sold Out". 3) The date of manufacture is '56, NOT '61. Thanks, Paul

  3. Gentlemen, These aren't military firearms, but I am here to solicit you assistance in finding a replacement stock for the Model 88 Winchester described below. Here are three new rifles I have added to my collection. The top one is a Remington Model 660; the next a Remington Model 600, and the bottom one a Winchester Model 88. As I wrote in the title, they are all chambered in .308 Winchester. Here's a close-up of the Model 88 as it came out of the shipping container shipped via FedEX. Made me sick to my stomach. I purchased this from Cabelas, and it WAS in pristine condition. Metal is essentially like new-in-the-box. The stock WAS almost perfect. I got it for a song, and the sons of bachelors at FedEx broke it in half. It is my heartfelt belief that FedEx breaks/destroys firearms ON PURPOSE. Let me repeat that for emphasis. I BELIEVE THAT FEDEX INTENTIONALLY BREAKS/DESTROYS FIREARMS. The reason I have this belief is: personal experience, first-hand knowledge of friends and acquaintances, and a mountain of reports on "gun" web-sites reporting broken/destroyed firearms shipped by FedEx. I contacted Cabelas first by phone then followed up with this email: Dear Mr. Morse, Per our telephone conversation earlier today, I am enclosing pictures of the rifle broken in shipping. (I am of course assuming you didn’t send me a broken rifle.) I have included: 1) Two pictures of the rifle, 2) The mailing label, 3) The invoice/receipt from Cabelas, and 4) The shipping box. I opened the box personally at the place of business of the FFL I was using for the transfer. The rifle was well-packed and the box at first glance didn’t appear to be damaged. As soon as I attempted to remove the rifle from the shipping container I knew something was wrong as it was clearly in at least two pieces and I was fairly certain that Cabela’s had not removed the butt-stock before shipping. Upon careful removal of the wrapping I saw that the stock was broken in two. Even though this break is essentially in the wrist, this particular break required some SERIOUS ‘effort’ to accomplish. I was heart-broken when I saw this. This is a beautiful rifle in excellent condition. I purchased it to include in my collection. It’s collectable value is now ‘salvage’ at best, but I am more grieved by the destruction of such an excellent example of a Model 88 than I am about my personal loss. This is truly a shame. Based on personal experience, the experience of others I know personally and the reports of reliable sources on the internet, this breakage is “normal” for FedEx. In fact, it is my personal belief based on the frequency of occurrence with FedEx and the rarity (NEVER) of occurrence with other shippers, that FedEx intentionally breaks/destroys firearms. It may be something that occurs whenever they x-ray boxes for “overseas” shipments to Alaska or anywhere else where FedEx is called on to x-ray the contents of a package and they find out it is a firearm. I realize this may sound “paranoid”, but I assure you that I am not “that sort” of person. In addition to the propensity to break/destroy firearms, FedEx is extremely recalcitrant when it comes to “owning up” to the responsibility. This is inconsistent with their normal willingness to acknowledge responsibility for any other form of loss due to their action. In fact, they are very quick to rectify damage caused by them when it comes to anything OTHER THAN firearms. This is another reason I believe they break/destroy them intentionally. As I said on the phone, I would prefer not to return this firearm to you and receive a refund. If that is necessary to get FedEx to fulfill their obligations in this matter, then so be it. However, a solution I would be perfectly happy with is replacement of the stock with one of comparable condition before this one was broken. If Cabelas can find such a stock, and I’m not in any particular hurry, I would much prefer that resolution. Thank you for your consideration in this matter and please don’t hesitate to call at the numbers below – the cell is best – if you have any questions or want to discuss this further. Sincerely, Paul Skvorc On the phone, Mr. Morse agreed to my suggested solution of finding a replacement stock. That said, I doubt that will be very easy. I would like to enlist the help of the folks here at the MFRC in finding a pre-'64 stock, (this rifle was - according to the serial number - made in 1961), for this rifle. Morse said he would check in Cabelas "inventory", but I have little hope for success there. However, if "I" find one, I may be able to get Cabelas to reimburse the cost if I purchase it. Thanks, Paul
  4. I like the carpet bombing idea because it puts an end to the BS. However, we all know 'that ain't gonna happen', and probably shouldn't to a country we are occupying. Truly, we need to consider how we would feel with a foreign army tromping our soil. I want us to leave ALL OF THEM to their own devices. They are incapable of "playing well with others", and if we weren't over there, they'd be "after" some other "infidel". Being over there just makes us the EASY propaganda target. Yes, they killed "ours", but we have killed MANY of "theirs" ON THEIR SOIL. Time for us to keep our noses out of the rest of the world's business. Just as we DEMAND that they keep theirs out of ours. The REAL issue FOR US is oil. For THEM, it's their HOME being occupied not only by "foreigners", but by INFIDEL foreigners. It's time we took our "ball" (MONEY) and went HOME. In fact, it's WAY PAST time we did that. Paul
  5. Is it one of the Remington's from the '70s? Paul
  6. "Iyam what Iyam and that's all that Iyam" (Popeye the Sailor Man - my hero.) Paul
  7. I suppose you intend that as an endorsement. Not to me. In fact, quite the contrary. I'm sick and tired of "professional" politicians. You apparently buy into the Saturday Night Live version of Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin beat an arrogant, old-school, far right, state congressman that had been a congressman for 20 some-odd years when he decided he wanted to be governor. He was the biggest son of a bachelor I have EVER seen in political office, and that includes Tricky Dick Nixon. The good old boys of the Alaskan Republican Party treated Palin like a child - pretty much what SNL and Tina Fey did - and she kicked their lazy, arrogant asses. When she got in office, she started CHANGING things IN A VERY GOOD WAY. The country could have done a lot worse than Sarah Palin as VP, AND THEY DID. You talk about not wanting a RINO, but willing to vote for essentially anybody - including ANOTHER professional politician - if it means beating Obama, yet out of the other side of you mouth bad-mouth McCain. Please reconcile how "any body but Obama" "works" now, but didn't apply when McCain ran. Paul
  8. I think Bachman would be the same kiss of death for Santorum that Palin was for McCain. The "adolescents in charge" will have a heyday with her and the IDIOTS that listen to that propaganda will vote against the GOP just like they did last time. Paul
  9. I breaks my heart that we have so much evil in the political leadership of this country that we are forced to vote for the lessor of two evils instead of voting for the one we believe to be the best leader. I too like Ron Paul's political views, (not sure what kind of "leader" he is though), but I believe all of the "conservatives" will vote for whomever the GOP nominates as their candidate. This is the essence of what politics has become in this country. It is precisely why Thomas Jefferson said that we should have a revolution every 20 years. With respect to Ron Paul's leadership abilities: I am of the opinion that highly successful businessmen make poor national leaders. A nation is not a company. Highly successful businessmen have a "bottom line" perspective INGRAINED over a long professional career. It is what made them successful businessmen. However, when it comes to LEADING a nation, "the bottom line" is often the exactly wrong perspective to have. The "bottom line" is NOT a moral rudder, and what this nation REALLY NEEDS is a leader with a moral rudder. I think the last man in the Whitehouse that actually had a moral rudder was Ike. Gerald Ford may have had one but he was destroyed by the "adolescents in charge" in Hollywood. Jimmy Carter had a moral rudder, but he was a coward and a blithering idiot. GW MAY have had a moral rudder hidden somewhere, but he hired truly EVIL men to work for him. A few years ago, when Sarah Palin beat Frank Murkowski for the govenor's seat in Alaska, the slogan was "ABM" = Anybody But Murkowski. I believe that for the conservatives of this country, ABO will be the chant, even if it is a RINO like Romney. The truth of that is precisely why this country is 'sliding towards Gomorrah". Just ol' unopinionated, Paul
  10. I have some k-98 take-off barrels from which I could remove the sights. However, I need to know what "version" of the k-98 you have. Is it a Turkish 1938 model for example. If you already have the Numrich barrel, a picture accompanied by the outside diameter of the barrel where the sights will go will be necessary. You can also often find milsurp Mauser sights on eBay. Paul
  11. Supporting Ron Paul - or anyone else - won't change this ######. Assuming we know all the facts, and I think we know enough of them, to even "chew out" a soldier for actions described, is a disgrace. The REAL ass-hole here isn't the "rules of engagement", it's Lt.Col Seth Folsom. I STRONGLY suspect that this whole matter is REALLY just a pissing match between Folsom and Waddell. The military "system" - and it is NOT "new" - allows superiors to screw subordinates if they so care to, and do it with relative impunity. I suspect that there is more to the story, but since NO ONE is claiming that Waddell did anything that was cruel, inhumane, or violated the Geneva accord, the REAL issue is the command of Folsom. Ron Paul could do exactly nothing about this sort of crap. It has been going on since there have been 'armies'. The son of a bachelor here isn't the "rules of engagement" it's Folsom. Paul
  12. Sadly, politicians (ptooey), well know these truths, and equally well know exactly how to manipulate the fools that know not history. Paul
  13. RIGHT ON THE MONEY! My heartburn is with the #$@*&@#$@* American press. The reasons should be obvious. Paul
  14. Does anyone that posted in this thread really believe that PUBLISHING this act - not the act itself - REALLY did ANYTHING "good" for the rest of their comrades in arms? Would I piss on a Taliban/Al Qaeda? Maybe. Probably if I was 19. Would I brag about it and publish for the WORLD TO SEE? Not even if I was 19. If I was their CO, I'd hammer their dicks flat. If their CO didn't do it, I'd hammer his dick flat. For those that care to comment that haven't been in combat - be careful what you say. You haven't paid the dues REQUIRED to comment on combat behavior. Paul
  15. THAT is THE problem. It wasn't just stupid, it was PROFOUNDLY STUPID. I really don't care too much one way or the other about pissing on Al Qaeda, but what happens in a war zone SHOULD STAY IN A WAR ZONE. Frankly, I don't care if they 'hang' those idiots that FILMED THAT. There is nobody that is so stupid that they shouldn't have KNOWN what kind of trouble it would create. That little immature behavior has cost the REST OF THE SOLDIERS in the theater some REAL HEAT. Was it REALLY worth it? No! What the enemy does to US is IMMATERIAL to how we treat them. WHEN are the numbskull groundpounders going to get this through their thick skulls? "WE are NOT "THEM". And we need to SHOW THAT. Paul
  16. Is not correct. See below for the official requirements to be POTUS: http://usgovinfo.abo...presrequire.htm And for those that want to argue about "natural born citizen": http://www.federalistblog.us/2008/11/natural-born_citizen_defined/ Paul
  17. It doesn't matter whether one's parents are citizens of the US when one is born or even if they are in the country illegally. If you are born on US soil, you are a US citizen until or unless you choose to reject that citizenship. There are aspects of "Obama care" that are GOOD. The problem is the WHOLE package, and this is what the Republican party has been saying ever since Obama Care was first proposed, and to what Gingrich is currently referring. The Governor of NJ WAS asked, REPEATEDLY, to run for president. He REPEATEDLY refused. I'm glad he did. He just came out "swinging" in his endorsement of Romney. Mitt Romney is half Mexican??? It's difficult to imagine that the press hasn't been ALL OVER that, regardless of whether they were here legally or not. A Mexican Morman! Come on - the press couldn't resist that! A bigger problem I have with Romeny is that he refuses to release his tax forms. I wouldn't release mine, but I'm not asking the American public to elect me president. If you are going to run for president, you need to 1) PROVE you are eligible, 2) Make public your tax records at least for the past 5 years like the IRS makes the rest of us do in an audit. You want to run for president, your tax records should AUTOMATICALLY get audited. One of the aspects of the "birth certificate" BS that Obama pulled was EXACTLY the same BS that Gingrich is pulling with respect to his military deferment. Obama CLAIMED that it was Hawaii that was refusing to release his birth certificate. That was A BALD-FACED LIE. EVERY state has privacy laws that protect citizens from having their private, but MANDATORY, records revealed publicly. The LIE was that Hawaii could over-ride a citizen's rights and keep the records private EVEN IF THE CITIZEN ASKED FOR THEM TO BE RELEASED. BS! As soon as a citizen says it is "OK" to release private records, the state has NO legal standing to keep them private. All Obama had to do was say he wanted his birth certificate released and Hawaii would have done it in a heartbeat. The reason he didn't is because he needed more than a year to fabricate lies, falsify documents, and pay off or threaten people that knew the truth. It is my sincerest hope that the truth about his citizenship will come out in my life-time. "Personally i think were screwed." We have been for a long time. Paul
  18. One of the 'things' that bothers me about these articles, is even the THOUGHT of prosecuting someone for defending their home. I'm not joking when I say that I would be inclined to form a lynch-mob for any prosecutor that even CONSIDERED starting an "investigation" into an incident like this. If you break into my house - I don't care if all you have is a Popsicle stick on you - one of us is going to die. It is not more complicated than that. Paul
  19. My sentiments exactly. Paul
  20. Forum rules and basic decorum prevent me from fully expressing myself on this. The nicest I can say is that it infuriates me. It is only slightly less infuriating than the decision to allow women on submarines. I got this in my email today. It goes directly to this stupidity... Michael Richards makes hispoint...and whether we like it or not, he is telliing the truth. Michael Richards better known as Kramer from TVs Seinfeld does make a good point. This was his defense speech incourt after making racial comments in his comedy act. He makes some very interesting points... Someone finally said it. Howmany are actually paying attention to this? There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc. And then there are just Americans.. You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You call me 'White boy,''Cracker,' 'Honkey,' 'Whitey,' 'Caveman'... And that's OK... But when I call you, Nigger, Kike, Towel head, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink .. You call me a racist. You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you.... So why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live? You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Martin Luther King Day. You have Black HistoryMonth. You have Cesar Chavez Day. You have Yom Hashoah. You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi. You have the NAACP. You have BET.... If we had WET (WhiteEntertainment Television), we'd be racists. If we had a White Pride Day, you would call us racists. If we had White History Month, we'd be racists. If we had any organization foronly whites to 'advance' OUR lives, we'd be racists. We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamberof Commerce. Wonder who pays for that?? A white woman could not be inthe Miss Black American pageant, but any color can be in the Miss America pageant. If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships... You know we'd be racists. There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US .. Yet if there were 'White colleges', that would be a racist college. In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists. You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists. You rob us, car jack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist. Why is it that only whites can be racists?? I'm sick of all of this BS! SICK OF IT! But, most of the 20-something generation "swallows" all of this racist and "diversity" BS "hook-line-and-sinker". Paul
  21. I think we understand each other, Manureman, and agree. There are a few things I keep in mind when I deal with neighbors. Among those things are: First, being a good neighbor. That's one of the most significant "two-edged" swords that exists. The second is that when I have to deal with a 'bad' neighbor, I have TWO enemies - the neighbor, AND THE COPS. Cops ALWAYS TRY to make things into "bigger" matters than they are, because they are fundamentally control freaks and want to assert their "control" as much and as often as possible. (And before any cops or cop lovers start to take me to task, I was a sworn Peace Officer (carried a badge) for 12 years.) If the cops are going to have to be involved, I want them thinking I am the rational "party". If I walk onto my neighbor's property, armed with a firearm, and use that firearm to destroy my neighbor's property - disregarding the potential for starting a gunfight with my neighbor - I WILL NOT be viewed as the "rational" party by the cops OR the court. Paul
  22. First, if you own a dog, sooner or later it's going to get loose. Second, dogs are predators. We can make them into "foo-foo things", but in their hearts, they chase and kill and eat things smaller than them. I would take a very dim view of anyone that caught my dog - even if it was chasing livestock - brought it to my yard and killed it in front of me. A VERY dim view. If the owner of the dog is known - the dog has a collar or you know the dog - the less cruel, more effective, and less likely to lead to escalation of trouble, is to take the dog to the "Pound". The owner will be contacted by "Animal Control" and they will have two choices: pay to get the dog back or let the dog be killed by Animal Control. If they choose to let Animal Control kill the dog, they have to pay for the killing and the disposal. Either the owner cares about the dog and they will pay to get it back - lesson learned. Or they don't care about the dog, and they have to pay to get it killed. "Good" owners will learn a lesson from almost losing a pet, and "bad" owners will learn a lesson from having to pay for their animal's "bad" behavior. In Alaska, if the owner is known, the owner also has to pay for the livestock harmed or killed. You bring my dog that got loose to my yard and kill it in front of my family and the police are going to be involved. And that will be AFTER I "take care" of the matter to the best of my ability with the resources I have at hand. Paul
  23. I have had dogs all of my life, and dogs "get loose". It happens. And I DON'T want my dog shot just because he got off his lead or out of his kennel. However, my dogs ALWAYS have a collar on. Always. And I won't shoot a dog with a collar if there is ANY way to capture it, even if it is chasing my livestock. That said, if a dog is on my property and it growls at me, it's going to die. All of the above applies to every dog except pit-bulls and pit-bull mixes in which I can 'see' the pit-bull. I'm not gonna argue about it. I've seen a hundred times what breeding/genetics can do. Dogs bred to hunt, hunt; it's uncanny what genetics/breeding can do. Dogs bred to run, run. And dogs bred to fight, fight. I've been around pit-bulls and I've seen how "friendly" they can be, and I've seen when the "switch gets turned", and they are NOTHING BUT UNCONTROLLABLY VISCOUS. It's not my intent to offend, but I simply have 'zero-tolerance' for pit-bulls. If one wanders onto my property, collar or not, chasing livestock or not, it's going to get killed. Paul
