Holy Snaps!!! Your rasping technique for the stock is cool and your bolt method is sweet. Did you eyeball the alignment of the bolt handle and the bolt before you welded it or did you use a jig?

I am here to push you some more Slseacrist... I was wondering, are you going to weld or silver solder the threaded ring into the action? I take it the barrel will only require a 1/3 turn to catch the threads? Are you going to use a set screw? The project is looking good.

Not to high-jack, but this may be of interest concerning M-n scope mounts... Does anyone know where to find this kind of mount? Notice the safety loop and [cross bar safety?]...

Hello FmSniper, Glad to hear your back in Cali. Your info on the Mauser ATI stocks and Mauser builds are the best. I have been working on a Mosin for some time, but when I saw this thread I desided to clean the dust off my Mosin and start researching the Rock Solid scope mount and [side safety???]. Can't wait to see your results. Keep up the good work. BTW, since your so talented, I was wondering if you where able to see the Custom Mosin in 300 Win Mag that was in a Finnish Sniper Challege as illustrated in Shotgun News recently. Z1R has a point. I like trying to make old rifles shoot and perform better than when I first bought them. In the long run, It may have been easier to just purchase a rifle in the intended caliber, but you wouldn't have LEARNED much on how to TINNKER with your rifle to make it fit YOUR personal goals or wishes. I really do not make or purchase rifles to fill a niche, I have my 300RUM for hunting deer, bear and pig and my 223 for varmit. Everything else is just to see if I am capable of building a rifle in an odd caliber. I have learned lots of info on this forum and I have respect for everybody who comments (good and bad) to my threads, because it provides me with direction to my builds. Anyways I build rifles just to say YUP I built that ugly looking stick... but I sure love how it shoots. Have a good day everyone.

What would be a good alternative for a QD scope system?

Alot of Mula... I kind of shy away from a QD system only because they really do not re-zero properly, but this set-up really caught my eye.

Okay I thinkk I found a resonable combo for a switch barrel. After some looking around, it seems a Savage would be the most cost effective way to go. I could purchase a Savage chambered in 300 Win Mag for my regular hunts and when I go varmit hunting, I could switch the barrel to a 25-300 win mag. I do not need to change the bolt or open the feed rails, just change the barrel. Hopefully in the future when I have money to actual begin a conventional rifle build, I will give this switch barrel on a Mauser a shot. Thanks everyone for your input.

Don, thanks for the link, It is indexed by the forearm stock and by a plunge roller. I think the fore arm stock is bedded to the barrel? I have seen a switch action on the 6mmBR forum, it's a good set-up. I just like the thought on spending what little movey I have on the side for multiple barrels instead of multiple actions. Correct me if I am wrong, but I have heard that it's possible to have a 30-06 and a 30-338 switch barrel?
