  1. Clemson that could be an option if I could find the things.
  2. What Weaver scope bases would fit on Small ring 98 mexican action? I found a link one time that said which ones would but can't seem to find it anymore. I have talleys lightweight one pieces, but they are to low for the eyepiece to clear my bolt handle on my zeiss scope. Thanks guys.
  3. It may happen this winter, not totally sure, but its on my list
  4. It is talley lw ring and base in one deal, its just a bit low to use my Ziess Conquest 3x9 scope so I had to borrow a VX-III from a friend for the year.
  5. For right now I will be using 140 grain Win Soft point factory rounds, No time for load development, however my plan is to use 120 grain BTSX bullets I am hopeing to hit 3000 FPS with them. I really like the 3 pos safety, just what I am used to.
  6. I recieved the final package today from z1r, and it is complete all that is left is to go and sight it in tomorrow, and shoot a deer this weekend. The gun is 1936 Mauser 98 small ring action, a number 3 contour shilen barrel 6.5x55 Sweede, satterlee arms 3 position safety, military bottom metal, and a stock from one of z1r's dealers. Chambering, truing, drilling and tapping, new bolt handle, inletting of stock was completed by z1r. Gun was blued by Mark Waldo, and stock finishing was done by me. This is my first custom rifle and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. We had a few bumps in the road, but z1r was great to work with, I would highly recomend z1r to anyone. Without further yaking, here are some pictures.
  7. Its different ... Looking forward to seeing the final product
  8. Tom F, I would recommend z1r for your project, he currently is working on one for me and he has been great to work with. He is building me a 6.5x55 sweede on a small ring Mexican 98. He has a thread on most of the work he has done on this site if you want to see what he has done.
  9. I ended up at the same place as you 6 months ago. The guys on this site helped me reach the conclusion that is cheaper, safer, and Ill end up with alot nicer end result if I let someone that knows how to do it build the gun for me. z1r is building me a 6.5x55 sweede right now, this gun is going to be my go to gun light recoil and excellent ballistics.
  10. looks real nice Mike, What type of action is this one built on?
  11. LOL......customers can sure be pests.... This is one I hope you post pics of when you get it completed, I really like the octagon barrel look.
  12. Hey Mike what ever happened with this project?
  13. Looks great Mike, That contour is perfect...i can't wait to see it finished.
  14. Looking good Mike. Its cool seeing the progress of this, all the cooler that I will get to shoot it when done.
  15. Looks good Mike, I really like the contour of that barrel on that action.
  16. I currently have a 6.5 x55 being built on a small ring 98 Mex. By Z1r. I am starting to think about the reloading for this gun and am wondering what kind of pressure I should be looking at. I read to not load the maximum in the older actions..not sure if that is true now that it is a rebuild and has been heat treated. Thanks for the info guys.
  17. I really like the stock on that husky.....did that come from the same guy as the one I am getting?
  18. Shilen #3 cut down to 24 inches. I think we decided to take some length out of the chamber end and the muzzle end.
  19. Boy I feel special now..... you know the suspense is killing me.....lol
  20. Shoot Yogi with the Yugo as is, that would be cool as all get out.....
  21. Mike I really like that side rail, that is something I would have never even considered or noticed had you not pointed it out, sure makes a big difference when you see it sitting next to one that isn't done.
  22. Looks great z1r....................I can't wait to shoot it
  23. Ok.......z you are just showing off now , but I looked again and the shroud is different on the Mannlicher damn close to the same though. Neat looking rifle none the less
  24. Ok if I was a betting man my money would be on a Mannlicher-Schoenauers rifle, The book has a pic of one and it is almost a dead make except my book has a butter knife bolt.
  25. Boy I am not sure what it is, but I just looked at a picture in one of my gunsmitthing books and that rifle looks exactly like one of the scout rifle projects he was working on. If no one knows for sure I will look when I go home for lunch.
