  1. This site is great, I joined about a month ago and find this is the site I end up on everytime I hit the web. Keep up the great work.
  2. Well here are the pictures of the Action, notice the missing bottom, anybody have one laying around I can buy. Just to make sure this is a spanish 98 mauser correct.
  3. Hmm....Well thanks for the great news...HAHA. looks I learned my first lesson in this game, is it possible though to make it in to a 6 x 55? Thanks
  4. Well, I went back and bought it, I got it for 100 bucks at gander mountian so no transfer fee. It is in really good shape from what I can tell. It has not been sporterized at all, no scope mounts bolt handle still original, no pitting. I will post pictures later. What is exactly bad about a spanish mauser, I read some other places that they are pretty good. Thanks for the info though.

    Spanish Mauser

I found a mauser for sale it is a Fabrica De Armas La Coruna 1947 in an 8mm. Matching numbers on barrel and reciver. From what I can tell this is a Spanish made 98 mauser. Question, is it worth buying and can I can convert it to a 6 x55? Thanks, I can get it for under 200 bucks
  6. Ok, I have been thinking about it and I am pretty sure I know what I want. I re-evaluated my collection and Would like a 308, with a scope, I want a 3 position safety. I will be doing as much work as possible my self, other then the action trueing and the rebarrel. So now that I finaly got it figured out what would be a good donor. Thanks guys you have been very patient with my indesisivnes.
  7. That is what I am starting to think the plan will be be, I will have to find a surplus and keep it original for now other then some metal finish, maybe a new stock and stuff, what is a good one to start with? Stuff that is readily available and has alot of aftermarket parts availble. Thanks
  8. Ok so this was all really good information, but I am now confused, I am going to get my C&R, I order the Mauser Book, And I joined this site. Now what I need to know is what is the best first project for me to tackle, what would be the easiest action to start with and so forth. I know everyone has their opinions but I want to hear them. Thanks
  9. Ok but will a 24/47 work for a 6.5 x 55? And that has sort of been my plan all along have someone do the metal work for me and then I will mess up the wood a couple times on my first one. I order my C&R kit today but it looks like I have some more reading to do....."damn infringments" huh Well i better figure out how to not get them cuz I don't exactly have great record keeping skills....lol
  10. Good points, however I allready have the Factory rifles that I need, frankly they are fun but they bore me, I am totally aware of the price that comes with this game. I am more or less looking for a hobby and to learn a new skill, I am a computer geek by trade and I can only look at a computer screen for so long. LOL.....Thanks for the advice this is by far the nicest group of people on any of the many of forums I look at...
  11. I did some looking and I am leaning towards a 260, mostly for whitetails, and antelope. Thanks for the info I will look into those. Just out of curiosity what is this C&R you mention(Just Proved I was a true newbie) THanks
  12. I found a Yugo 48 action at Sarco for 90 bucks, don't have an FFL so I would have to find someone to do a transfer, but my question is is 90 bucks a good price, and does anybody have any other spots to find actions or rifles. THanks guys for all the help it is greatly appreicated.
  13. Ok, I am going to do as much as I can by my self, most metal will not be possible for me though don't have the big tools yet, So maybe for the first one I will do a 308 type. Probally a good place to start, would you all agree.
  14. Ok I have been doing some thinking about the caliber I want, I am not sure I "need" a 25 right now(eventually), I am thinking something Like a 300 Win Mag, would be good, what is a good action to start with their. This is sure turing into a fun hobby and I havn't even started yet and my head is spinning with all the stuff on this site. I think I may build an action wrench as my first project, but I want to start looking for a donor rifle or action soon.. Thanks for all the help.
  15. Well this being my first project I don't have the tools or the room to all the work, the barrel and action stuff will go out, but My goal is to do as much as I can myself. And the stuff I can't I want to know about so I know what I am talking about. Thanks guys for the replys. What is the best place to pick some these up?
  16. Hey all, I have been doing alot of research on sporterizing a mauser. Don't know a whole lot about it yet. So what I am looking for is some good places to start, I am thinking I want a rifle in a 25 caliber something. What would be a good donor rifle, where can I find some places to get one? And some good reading material on mausers. Thanks for everything in advance. I just joined the site so if there are some old posts you can point me to that would be great.
