  1. Thanks Clemson. I will enjoy this piece. Thank you for the link, I have been spending today learning just how lucky I am.
  2. Fellas I just bought this wheel gun at a pawn shop for 250. I would like to know some info on it. The barell says .357 CTG highway patrol and it is six inches for the barell. It seems to have been used very little. I did read that it should be a matte finish. This one is a combo of matte on the grip strap, front of frame and top of frame with a gloss rest of the gun. Any info on this thing is going to be nice for me to aquire. I would also like to know a good place for original grips, a manual and mabey a smith chat room. Thanks gentlemen and ladies.
  3. I live in Atlanta but go to Pontotoc often. I know some good gun people there.
  4. did you read the above? It is happening!!!!!!!!!
  5. I like the Huber trigger I put on a nagant
  6. Could thread or silver solder over the bayo lug a muzzle brake. Slide the whole bayo lug off the barrel and afix a muzzle break. Hope this is some what clear.
  7. Markings I have found so far. B no circle on front right top reciever. very small tree with IIk under it on the reciever. SA with box around it on barrel. T in a triangle in a circle on barrell. The Ashunds on the left side of the sight are lined out. The meters are not marked M and start at 2. The bolt safety piece has a triangle. The bolt body is not Finn matched. The sling metal keepers are on the stock. ps barrel is 30.5"
  8. I'll look tonight SW thanks for the info so far. ps the B stamp is on the receiver not the barrel.
  9. Killed my first buck, just a spike. Used a K-31. Rolled my own 180 gr. Sierra hpbt. Very accurate load will post the powder and gr. when I can retrieve data on it. Butchered great and was a lung heart lung shot. Dropped in ten yards. His brother showed up about ten minutes latter while I was smoking a ciggy. Too dark and didn't wan't another spike so I just watched him from a max of fifteen yards and enjoyed two more chain smokes. This was on family land in Miss. What great fun. I'm headed back for rut in January for a one horned inbread. The meat packed out to over thrirty pounds and will feed me and my wife well. Bye bye
  10. I just bought a 1940 and it has no maker on the reciever. It does have a B and a very small coat of arms and a III k on the reciever. I am wondering if any one knows what those markings mean. BTW 80$ OTD. thanks
  11. "legally" if you had your C&R before the purchase you must log it.
  12. Notalbert thinks that the propaganda machine that the Nazi's used had no effect on the population of Germany? Or possibly that the USA's propgananda Machine has had no effect on our culture. It is idealistic to think people are smart enough to draw their own conclutions, that have any bassis in facts. In my industry the masses think they know what it takes to do my job. They rely on the media hear say and other propoganda medias to attain there indusputable proof. LMAO Tell a lie often enough and it becomes fact. The relavence of the number of guns, whether they were liscenced, and the fact that the police confinscated the weapons has no bearing on the fact that a double homicide was committed. What if the young man had used a bat or his hands or the people he killed kitchen knives? Would the guns in the home be an issue then? Reporters may not have any agenda but to censationalize the stories that they work on. They know the trigger words and how to best use them. This brings in the ratings and the boss is happy. The problem with this is that they are a propoganda arm and do have agendas beyond censational stories. Well used propoganda, timing and word usage, will have an effect on people who know nothing of what is being reported. They will with out question take the "words" as facts and the "words" conotations as facts. I'm not trying to tell our nations reporters how to do what it is they do. I would like to have one of them take some discretion in reporting the "facts" to make sure they are correct and relevent.
  13. FC would you mind if I post this addy on other sites? Reason I ask is that I see people that used to be of great value and haven't seen post here since the switch.
  14. Black park is manganeese parking. You can also park black by per-dipping in a solution that is ment to produce a black park and then park with a zinc solution. O.D. green is a tough one to do. Some say that they can get OD by a post rinse/dip in the green version of desiel feul. I have never done the deseil feul method.
  15. Steve-Wagner's site has soem good stuff on metal checkering. http://www272.pair.com/stevewag/ should be under the turk section
  16. The color matching of M1 and Carbines is not easy. I used a manganeese phosphate from brownell's. This came out a very nice dark grey to black color. I am having camera to computer problems right now. The M1 "green" color if suposed to be a zinc phosphate color"grey" that has ageed to be green. Might be from cosmoline or dirt. I do recon that it is as tough as it is the same process. Parking is like an etching into the surface of the steel then a deposit of material onto the etching. The deposit is a crystaline structure that holds grease very well and also stops the spreading of rust. The parking is also a rust inhibitor. I realy liked doing it. The process was simple. Stainless tank, solution mixed a proper ratio, heat to 140 then ad some steel fillings to activate the solution. Once activated, drop you parts in for 5-15 mins. Leave em in till they stop phissing, looks like alka-seltzer. Rinse and oil. Very easy. Prep for metal is bead or aluminum oxized blasting. Gives a better bite for the chemicals.
  17. I now think I will do a whole lot more parking. I parked a sporterized 91/30 and it looks real nice. This is possibly the easiest metal finish that isn't paint! I will try and post pics tomorrow. BTW a Huber trigger is nice on these things. This riffle will shoot moa for about 225$. I didn't have to buy the park tank and my wife warped a grill real bad so I didn't have to buy burners either.
