Hey everyone. I've just started a pretty ambitious Mosin project and figured I'd better join the boards for questions and advice. Here's what I've got.
Picked up a 91/30 Mosin that's in really good shape.(I know modifying a rifle like this is going to make some people upset but I figure you have to start with good ingredients to get good results.)
I've ordered a stock similar to fmsniper's from Richards.
I put an ATI scope rail and bolt handle on.
I am currently building a trigger that will have a lever style safety.
I'm talking to McGowen Barrel of Kalispell Montana about a re-barreling job.
If I get my trigger to work out I have an idea in mind for moving the bolt handle further back on the bolt body and closing up the rear action ring for a better scope mounting surface.
I know that starting with a Mosin makes little to no financial sense, but I'm not looking at turning a profit. This is my first real venture into gunsmithing and I'm looking at building a rifle for me. I know I could take the money and time I'm going to spend and "just buy a new rifle" but I really get satisfaction out of making my own stuff and knowing there's nothing else out there like it.
I imagine this to be a fairly long project so I'll probably have lots of questions for everyone!
