if we tig it the heat wont bring to 650 thats wy isay go slow around lug and bolt the holes dont look llike their that close i have saved some actions but allways be safeOr, it could allow you to use the receiver for some other caliber. Either way, enjoy and post pics when you are done.

The chop saw is ready. What length do I want it? What do I do about the bolt face- weld it up and cut? I will start as soon as I can.

i think angle is not right for plungerAnybody ever had a problem with the plunger on a Chapman style side swing safety locking the bolt? I can't lift the bolt handle for the life of me. The only thing I can think happened is that the spring broke and the plunger that fits into the indent in the bolt body is stuck in place. I tried tapping the butt of the rifle on the ground to see if gravity would help it fall out, but to no avail. Unfortunately I will have to take the scope off to get at the screw that holds it all together. Better it happened now than autumn in the mountains...

bill thank you would like to see it sounds goodThe tang extension from a Jap type 38 or 99 will give you a good start on a base for a Ruger tang extension. Tang safeties can be tricky in the field, easily moved on or off safety while carrying. Another, simplier option in a German innovation, a through the stock safety.
This is a rod with a cut out slot in it's center, which passes though the stock The left end has a flat perpendicular arm which when pushed forward rotates the cut out slot of the rod into position behind the trigger allowing the trigger to be pulled. When the arm is slid backwards, the cylinderical portion of the rod rolls around behind the trigger keeping the trigger from moving to the rear. The stock had a hole drilled through the stock just behind the trigger. The left end of the rod was reduced in diameter and passed through a hole drilled into the upper portion of a recessed flat metal plate (with a raised rim) which was screwed into the left side of the stock The arm was welded/rivetd to the projecting left tip of the rod. The right end of the rod protruded through a steel cylinder set flush with the left surface of the stock.
The perpendicular arm's movement was restricted to just enough movement to engage or disengage the slot in the rod by being pinned at the top of the recessed rim and swinging like a pendulum within the raised rim of the circular backing plate. Difficult to describe, but, incrediblely simple in construction. A dent ball between the arm and the backing plate held the arm in position. This safety was operted by the left thumb. Bill

is this a kit or did you make itthank you for info

thank you for infoFairly easy to do. You just modify a side safety trigger and add an extension to the tang.

Has anyone done 7X57 or 8MM Mauser necked down to 22? If so any information would be appreciated on those rounds. Sure would like to solve feeding problems.

Talk to Dave Kiff of Pacific Tool and Gauge. If he doesn't have the reamer on hand, he can make it. Sell the 223 WSSM reamer on eBay and turn a profit on it!
Thank you I'll do as you say.

Jason posted about a friend who successfully converted a Mauser to feed 325 WSM. The issues he faced may be the same as what you'll need to do. Here's a link.
It far exceeds my skills.
Then this cartridge ain't for you. The .22-250 or 22-08, or 22-06 or 5.56x57 would be better in this regard. And, they will all produce less recoil than the 223 WSM with better barrel life to boot. Heck don;t overlook the 6mm rem either. You can get bullets as lite as 55 grains.
I have 223 wsm willing to share with anybody willing to help me with a 22-08. Can you tell me where to get a reamer and headspace gauge like that? My reamer is pt&g solid pilot brand new. Any information on this cartridge would be helpful.

a guy could probably build a really trim, light weight rifle out of a mauser if one were so inclined to have a bolt action single shot.... it shouldn't be that much harder with practice to quick reload like a break action..... damn, another idea! URGH! the wife already hates my collection.... (although maybe she won't notice another addition.....)
Its a good thought but I want to feed cartridges.

Other cartridges to look at are 5.56x57 and 22-08.
All these will burn lots of very slow powder send a .22 caliber bullet down range at light speed!
If I may ask, why the 223 WSSM?
Because I don't like recoil because of injurys I've had. I'm trying to find something without a bunch of recoil and be a hell of a varment gun that will work in a mauser. Could you tell me more about the cartridges you mentioned? Or any other ideas you have? Thanks.

Thank you I am looking for something short light and fast without much recoil that will work with my mauser. Thanks.
