  1. Ok, here are some pics. No range pics but the Tavor and some targets ... Right hand side view. I just realized that I should have put a mag in the rifle ... oh well. Left side view. View of left hand side of rifle. Note cocking handle location. Angle view, iron sights deployed. Side view, iron sights deployed. View from back of Tavor, BUIS and front sight deployed. 100 yard 5 round group. Double Tapping and switching targets, shots from 20 to 40 yards, target 1.
  2. Down there at the bottom of the page: Ok, our numbers have fallen off a bit but I wonder what was going on at 3:00 am to attract 145 users at the same time?
  3. It seems to me that the older AO pistols didn't have the best reputation. From what I recall, AO was trying to improve their reputation as regards pistols within the last year or two. It might be worth googling 'Auto Ordnance pistol' to see what info is out there on the subject. Look here: http://www.auto-ordnance.com/pr_ot0405.html
  4. Here's a link to the analyst's website where the interview is posted. You don't need to join anything, just click on the April 12 2008 interview and go to the 7:00 mark, otherwise you have to listen to our local news first. http://www.polarpacific.com/Performance/media.htm The analyst's name is David Bensimon and yes, there is some math involved. Let me know what you think. I thought it quite interesting. The Canadian dollar stuff is around the 38:00 to 40:00 mark, for those of you that can't stand financial discussions and need to skip ahead. I find I enjoy hearing them at my current stage of life, but each to their own.
  5. Well, time will tell. I'll be curious to see where this one ends up as it seemed a bit surprising to me. What your father said is all too often true. In this case I have reason to trust the source as I have followed this particular financial program for some years now and much of what has been presented has been accurate. If anyone wishes I can post a link, although I believe you will have to join the radio station's site to listen. It's nothing weird, just a local Vancouver radio station website. The show is run by a fellow named Michael Campbell and I've found it interesting and informative over the years. I figure the worst that could happen is that if nothing else you might have a few dollars set aside for a little trip to the 'Great White North' one of these days. I'm not suggesting folks throw everything they have into foreign currency as you need mostly US dollars because most of your buying is in America anyways. A few extra beans left over to buy some guns won't hurt though.
  6. Hi guys, First off, sorry I haven't sent you some cash for the site this year FC, but I will take care of that one day soon, I promise. I don't post here that often of late, but I do check in from time to time. I heard an interview with a financial analyst that I thought might be of interest to you fellas, and so I thought I might pass the gist along to you. It went like this: among other things (gold and silver going higher, along with copper) the US dollar is poised to take another shellacking. It should surge in June, only to begin dropping shortly thereafter. Here's the shocker: within a year or so he predicted an American dollar worth about half a buck Canadian! It might be wise to pick up a few Canuck bucks in June, just in case.
  7. Hi Tony, I haven't read that one, but did read one called 'Tarawa' by Martin Caidin (IIRC). An excellent read, but very intense stuff to be sure. I'll see if I can't track down a copy of the book you're posting about. I find non fiction way more interesting to read lately so this should be right up my alley.
  8. Count me in for a Happy New Years wish to all of you as well. 2008 already? I'll be damned ... I'm still getting used to the idea that the 1990's are behind us.

    Coming Due

Hi Tony, I have some American cash I can send you ... it isn't worth as much as it used to be anyways.
  10. A merry Christmas to all MFRC members!
  11. A few comments: 1. If there was deliberate censorship occurring, surely this thread would have been struck as well .... 2. Running things is a generally thankless task. I'm not sure one can correctly generalize about human nature on this basis as your point of view will tend to be negatively skewed. Yes I speak from experience ... 3. Computer glitches are pretty common. I've lost more than a few posts myself (on a variety of boards) ... it happens, usually without the knowledge of the site owner. If one gets frustrated by this kind of thing there is always the technique of using Word or MS WOrks or Office or some other word processing program first ( save your work as you go), before posting. Good advice but I just type it out again when I lose a post ... 4. Maybe things are a bit stressful out there? 5. If you use more than 3 'smileys' you get this message and it won't let you post: 6. Merry Christmas, all.
  12. Sorry to hear the bad news. My condolences to Fritz's family and thank you for taking the time to let us know. He'll be missed around here too ....
  13. Do you mean shipped from Canada to the US? Probably not from the sounds of the first post in this thread. Besides it might well be a Department of Trade issue and not an ATF issue .... lots of rules and different agencies involved in firearms it seems.
  14. Maybe its done to stop the terrorists ... you know, the same way gun control is supposed to prevent crime! It seems to me more than a few of these controls were imposed during the Clinton years. A few others were likely prompted after the events of 9-11. Mind you, you haven't got it that bad compared to us. At the moment importing stuff from the US into Canada is hellishly difficult. I'm not even referring to major components of rifles but quite trivial parts of rifles like AR15's and M14's like stocks and other furniture and most optics. Any magazine or other component of such 'assault rifles' is strictly controlled and parts which are perfectly legal to own in Canada such as short rifle barrels, are being denied import permits. The really hilarious one is the control of parts kits of WW2 vintage firearms ... do you think that Al Quaeda is relly depending on imports of MP40 parts kits (via Canada) to sustain their war efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq? The Canadian customs people are bad enough without having to deal with US restrictions as well.
  15. It sucks to be you .... I'm glad you clarified that it is a US law that stops you importing the SVT. I can buy all the SVT's I want, here in 'anti gun' Canada. Weird, eh? I suppose we don't have a big enough firearms manufacturers lobby that will back legislation designed to keep out cheap imports. Are there no US sources for these rifles, and what other countries (besides China) are on the banned from import list? I wasn't aware that Russia was ...
  16. Well, I did enjoy 'that other site' at one time, but noticed recently how sharply the number of viewers had dropped of late. What on earth happened? Did the milsurp crowd all go to Gunboard.com?
  17. Well, well ...look what made the news!
  18. From what I have been hearing for some time, the danger to the US economy is quite real. The people I am hearing it from are professional investors who know their stuff. I don't believe China is prepared to allow the value of the US dollars they own continue to fall without doing something about it. It seems clear to me they want out, and this will have consequences. Lately they have been buying mineral production sites in Africa among other things and have not attempted to dump the US dollar directly. That would be an economic disaster for both nations, but a more dramatic loss for the US. Your dollar has fallen in value from about $1.60 Canadian to almost par in the past year or two ... if this trend continues you might find international products tripling in cost without the addition of any tariffs!! Karl, one problem with adding tariffs as you suggest is that would likely trigger a massive world wide depression as in the 1930's. I've been hearing speculation about this scenario for the past two or three years. Here's how its supposed to go: 1. uncontrolled and massive debt in the economy 2. devaluation of currency followed by a 'race to the bottom' in order to obtain a trading advantage vis a vis other countries 3. imposition of tariffs to deal with the foreign trade imbalance 4. loss of jobs and economic confidence at home and complete economic collapse
  19. I've been hearing about this issue for some time and wondered if its factored into anyone's planning for the future. Exactly what China does with all the US dollars it holds could have a major impact on the US economy ... so far they are spending them carefully and selectively. What if they decide to pull the economic plug and sell off quickly?
  20. November 7 will do just fine, and I'll agree things look poor but there is still some time. We'll see if GWB can pull one last rabbit out of the hat before leaving. I never thought he'd win either election and he did, so close calls are nothing knew for him. As to what we Canucks use, yardstick or meter stick? The answer is both ... in true Canuck fashion we'd rather leave our options open. And while its true that many of my fellow countrymen claim they would vote for Hillary, its not all that surprising even if somewhat apalling. I'm afraid the country swallowed the socialist koolaid quite some time ago ...
  21. I am skeptical of what the Iraqi President said on TV. After all, faced with an inevitable withdrawal of US forces, what else can he say? That doesn't necessarily mean Iraq can hold out without substantial US help. I'd pick a better yardstick if you hope to be convincing.
  22. They would instantly suspect a ruse ... they know that they call the shots in our respective nations, and as such, will let us know when these things will take place. Besides, too many people depend on their votes to threaten a voter base of millions of people, no matter how eccentric and self centered.
  23. I don't know what California is like, but Quebec will never willingly leave a nickel in the Federal treasury that they believe they are entitled to. For that reason they will never truly separate from Canada (the financial backer of their hare brained socialist schemes), they would in fact require eviction! PS - You might wish to alter 'Baby Bloomers' to Baby Boomers'. 'Baby Bloomers' are diapers, I think!
  24. Well as this is a bit of a split off from the 'President' thread, I think part of it does go to leadership. Presidents such as Reagan seemed to command the trust and respect of most although even he had vitriolic attackers who were part of the Democratic party base. However, many mainstream Dems came to accept his leadership ... Bush seems to have spent all his political capital early and long wars of attrition have never been popular in America. However, despite the quality of leadership, there is an ever widening political divide in America with no compromise possible. I see a similar state of affairs in Canada. I am quite pessimistic about the outcome, which I believe will be civil war, or at least widespread civil unrest ...
  25. Well, ok, I suppose popularity enters into it at some point too ... but if you asked those same people if they felt that Bush got America into the war for corrupt motives or was sincere but mistaken about the conduct of the war I think many would pick the latter. Dems wouldn't be so inclined, I think ... I've never been in favour of this campaign, and for just this reason ... that it may well damage the GOP so much as to be unelectable, and in this case it may mean another Clinton in the White House. That is bad news for all of us. That being said, I believe Bush had his reasons to invade Iraq, and the game is not fully played out, although prospects for success look dim. By 'success' I would mean a stable and democratic Iraq which is allied to America and capable of containing Iran and any fundamentalist Muslim organizations in the area. Your mileage may vary ... btw, any thoughts on why Hilary wants the job?
