  1. I'll bet that's your subtle way of admitting that if you were ever caught out you'd "eat your hat". Have you taken up salsa eating during your long period of "Snowbirding"? Are you low on Maple Syrup? I can send a little "care package" if things are desperate. Well, you are indeed caught, you silly old cantankerous Canuck .... ! Who else would know anything about Canadian made rifles, Firearms Identification Genius or not? For that matter, who else would even ADMIT to knowing anything about Canadian rifles ... ?
  2. He's Canadian, as I've long suspected ... I believe he only spurned my offers of tocques and earflap hats because he already had a substantial supply hoarded away. I'll just bet he's eating flapjacks with maple syrup on them and chuckling fiendishly as he reads this thread.
  3. I saw this on another site and thougt some here would enjoy ... now keep your minds out of the gutter!
  4. Hello Paul, nice to have you aboard again.
  5. I'm waiting until the Canadian dollar reaches par with the US greenback! We're almost there ... seriously, though I'll probably get around to it soon. I seem to have run out of US cash so may have to break down and buy some.
  6. Hellyer hasn't been part of mainstream politics for about 30 years ... as time goes on his ideas have become increasingly bizarre. This one goes even further than some of his previous notions. To think that this fellow could have become Liberal leader (and PM) after Pearson! Mind you, look at our choices. As it turns out, Trudeau succeeded Pearson, and in many ways set Canada firmly in the track of socialism. As to Pearson, some have speculated that he was a Soviet mole .... G
  7. Hi Greg, it's nice to hear from you again ... I was just wondering if you might post here once more, as registration is again unnecessary on MFRC.

Ok, here are some highlights ... please refer to the original before attempting to import firearms, though. Note that AR15's are defined as restricted firearms. Some stuff which is ok in the US is VERBOTEN here ... be careful. If you think our rules are dumb, you're probably right. Some U.S. rules aren't so hot either! Filling out the forms option ... You could also be licensed to own guns in Canada ... a bit of a hassle as a course and a test are involved, and of course, storage of said firearms. Kinda handy though, if you hunt or shoot here regularly or you've always wanted to own a 10" or 14.5" barrelled AR15 or other LE only firearm, 'cause you can do that here. I am a certified instructor so can help you fellas out with any questions you might have about this option in the event this seems interesting to you.

That 'empty shell' seach runs both directions across the border now, I'm afraid. Someone I know in the movie props business told me of some fellows taking souvenir .50 cal fired brass across the border ... only a couple of pieces each, mind you, and with the ends crimped as blank ammo. They were subjected to the 3rd degree by US Customs. I know that Americans can take a rifle through Canada by applying for a permit and paying a nominal ($25 Cdn) fee, but our government is more strict about handgun importation. There may be a way to do it though, by paying the fee and transporting it according to Canadian rules, although I suspect you would need to engage the services of a licensed carrier to transport it for you. I'll see what I can find, or you can try yourself at this official government (don't believe the BS) site: http://www.canadianfirearms.com/ And try here: http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/info_for-renseig...s/default_e.asp
  10. Well, was there ever any doubt? I am: Julius Caesar You scored 50 Wisdom, 88 Tactics, 40 Guts, and 51 Ruthlessness! Roman military and political leader. He was instrumental in the transformation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. His conquest of Gallia Comata extended the Roman world all the way to the Atlantic Ocean, introducing Roman influence into what has become modern France, an accomplishment of which direct consequences are visible to this day. In 55 BC Caesar launched the first Roman invasion of Britain. Caesar fought and won a civil war which left him undisputed master of the Roman world, and began extensive reforms of Roman society and government. He was proclaimed dictator for life, and heavily centralized the already faltering government of the weak Republic. Caesar's friend Marcus Brutus conspired with others to assassinate Caesar in hopes of saving the Republic. The dramatic assassination on the Ides of March was the catalyst for a second set of civil wars, which marked the end of the Roman Republic and the beginning of the Roman Empire under Caesar's grand-nephew and adopted son Octavian, later known as Caesar Augustus. Caesar's military campaigns are known in detail from his own written Commentaries (Commentarii), and many details of his life are recorded by later historians such as Suetonius, Plutarch, and Cassius Dio.

My age or that of the guns?! Well, you cannot own a gun until age 18 and you must go through a course and pay for a license. Apart from that we have our share of guns the gov't deems too dangerous for us to possess, but we can own almost everything you can own and some you fellas (and gals) can't. One example is AR15's with barrels shorter than 16" ... they aren't LE only in Canada. Our magazine limits suck ass though ... 10 rounds for pistols and 5 rounds for semi auto rifles. There is no genuine means to obtain a CCW in Canada aside from LEO or occupational/wilderness carry.

Thanks FC! Actually I have done nothing to my guns, everything is as I bought it. I have no technical abilities whatsoever, but I know how to buy stuff that I like. I'll add to that album as I feel inclined, so check in from time to time if that suits you. I've always liked your Persian Mauser, BTW and would love to be able to buy a Glock 26 up here (or is that a G27?).

Here are some of mine: http://www.huntingpictures.net/showgallery.../500/ppuser/194 One of the Valmets shown has since been sold.
  14. Zeke, I think you'll fit right in ... I note that 2 of your 3 posts are right here in "Chewing the Cud". Sorry, I couldn't resist! Welcome all the same ... we've been at this a fair while and the board runs quite well. I hope you will find that as the archives build up once again this is a great place to hang out!
  15. I have to agree with keeping the "social areas" open on this forum. I must say that through any and all disagreements here (and yes, things are much tamer at the moment) that I feel absolutely at ease with all members on this site. Hell, I'm even nice to Karl on occasion, as difficult as that can be ... Seriously though, its easy enough to stay out of those areas you don't like and leave the rest of this fractious lot (me included) to enjoy the freedom of this board. No matter what the disagreement, I'd be surprised to see anyone not help you out on a serious question you have. As to the trolls, yes, they can be an issue from time to time, but this is the internet.
  16. I happen to think an AR15 the best possible choice of semi auto and here's why: 1. Nice mild round to shoot ... you can do a lot of shooting 2. Relatively inexpensive to shoot ... see #1 3. Configuration changes are as easy as pushing out a couple of pins 4. Plenty of aftermarket goodies 5. It is a very accurate rifle 6. Magazine changes are quick and easy 7. Great ergonomics (IMO, anyway) 8. Spare parts are readily available Now if you want to be able to hunt with it, that is an entirely different story and you may wish to consider something in 30 cal. Mind you, there are other calibers available for the AR, including the 7.62x39 and the recently developed 6.8 mm round.
  17. I would start by talking to Invision and see what can be done ... then I'll ask for submissions and begin on a few ideas.
  18. I'm in the process of creating a logo for a "Tactical Rifle" t shirt and am having a little success, so I think perhaps its time I tried my hand at a picture logo for Milfire. I'll need a little help though ... How about some pics of the nicest sprterized military firearm you've ever seen (or built), pics of work work area, pics of tools ... any other ideas for the elements of a logo would be welcome. Last but not least, FC, if you think this is a crappy idea, no problem ... I'll go quietly.
  19. I'm a little surprised you didn't take it shooting ....
  20. French has never been, and will likely never be THE official language of Canada ... it is currently one of the 2 official languages, but in reality is only used to any great extent in the Province of Quebec. Quebecers, especially French speaking, are a slowly dwindly proportion of our population, hence that Province's move to prop up use of French through legislation. As you can see, the comparison with the Spanish issue is not quite correct.
  21. Sorry Jerry, I missed seeing your post earlier. I am in the SW corner of BC not far from Vancouver. The climate here is quite mild, but the rest of BC is as cold as anywhere in Canada, with the possible exception of the coastal areas. Certainly Vancouver Island has a very mild (for Canada) climate, I'm not sure about the central coast. Our climate is much like that of Washington state only a bit colder.
  22. It's still nice out ... our match on Sunday turned out warm and sunny ... it must have been 75 degrees. There is a noticeable briskness in the mornings though. You need to remember that we are one of the warmer parts of Canada and can quite often have entire winters with litttle or no snow. The rest of Canada is ... different.
