  1. Thanks Vlad. Appreciate the correction.
  2. Thank you for the reply. Now I Just need to finde a tap (I think that is the proper term) to cut threads on end of a Carcano barrel... Hope they are similar to the swede. Mic'ed at about .51 inches in diameter.
  3. Thanks All. This really made my weekend. This was a "bonus" urban license and general archery does not open until Oct 1st, so I will be back out hunting again looking for buck #2. If I don't arrow another buck I'm gonna take one with rifle or me muzzie during rut in November. Roscoedoh, Caution. Bow hunting is extremly addicting. Watch out. Rojelio, Antelope, very cool. That is on my species bucket list along with black bear, elk, and a moose. Archery, rifle, muzzie, crossbow. Doesn't make a dfference to me. Good luck to all.
  4. Season is starting out real good. Got out Friday pm, Saturday am and pm and Sunday am. Was 15 minutes from quitting time this morning and this guy walked in and stood quartered away at 17 yards. Hit slightly back and pierced liver and opposite lung. Blood trailed about 200 yards. He had 9 mainbeam points and 4 countable stickers for a 13 pointer. He dressed at 160 lbs with estimated live weight at 180-185 lbs. I love deer season. 8uck5nort
  5. Jimro, Stay vigilant and keep safe. My family and I thank you and anyone who serves for our freedoms. Ditto on the "Do you need anything"? I sure appreciated the care packages when I was overseas. Darin
  6. Exactly. Anyone can walk into a store and pick something off the rack. They have one and so can anyone else. when you take that old warhorse and start to clean and dream then there is no telling what you gonna end up with. Love it, addicted to it, I just need more time and money to keep it going.
  7. Terni Carcano Scout in 6.5 mm carcano. I picked this up off GB for 77.00 delivered. Just could not help myself.<sigh> I think I need a therapist or something. Here is what it looked like when I unboxed it. I decided to work with what I got and what the rifle will give. So the first thing I decided to was put the "drop in" scope kit to work I originally bought for my LaCoruna. I cut it down to sit on the existing front sight base and "bridge" to a point on the barrel. I am going to bed these for perfect contour, and then drill and tap the bridge into the front site base as shown. This should provide a very solid scope mount. So far the only tools I've used are a hacksaw, small dremel, socket wrench set, file and various grit of sandpaper cause that is all I got. I am going to have to purchase the tap and dies. I have also broken down the bolt, cleaned, polished and figured out the saftey, which did not work well before breaking down. I hate the stock on this so I picked up a Claro French Walnut rough uninletted stock for 27.00 delivered. It should be here in a day or two. I am also going to see if I can figure out a way to use the M96 swede flash hider. I located them at Sarco and will get that ordered tomorrow. Not sure how I am going to get that on, but i think it will look pretty good once I get it all cleaned up, refinished, and put together.
  8. Does anyone know what the thread specs are that were used by the Swedes when they threaded the muzzle end for the M96 flash hiders? If known, is it a fairly common standard that one can purchase a pipe thread device (not exactly sure what the would be called) to put the appropriate threading on the outside of a barrel that currently does not have them?
  9. Jimro, I salute you! Interesting points you are making about Afghanistan. Good luck and keep safe. Darin
  10. I was looking for a source of exotic woods for stock projects. I found this one, but does anyone have another or a better source? http://www.bellforestproducts.com/ I was looking for caps, forearms and inlay material.
  11. It appears I can convert most any graphics files, jpg, jpeg, tiff, bmp, png to the format needed for Corel. I can vary the depth depending on power and speed of laser in addtion to number of passes. The furthest I have engraved is about a 1/4 inch on pine 2x4. High power and slow speed equaled lots of smoke which kinda blew back into house. Wife not happy. Doh! I am keeping these first designs shallow on purpose. I am rasping out the design and resanding/refinishing the forend piece for further "testing". I found a source of inexpensive semi-shaped stock blanks on e-bay. I plan on getting a 2 or 3 for future learning and as I rasp out the old lessons I'll be shaping them as I go for replacement stocks for future projct guns. That's the plan anyway.
  12. Engraved some patterns on fore arm of Spanish mauser stock Pattern was created from clipart of Celtic border weave. Top two are original pattern on one side and botton two are the inverted scheme on other side of the forearm. Still got a alot of learning to do, but was just messing around and image was not cleaned up, but should give an idea of what is possible in an afternoon.
  13. How goes the archery? Just going through serious hunting withdraw. 11 more days to go.
  14. This is the template R & D from BATF. Third one down is for C&R. You can convert to an Xcel spreadsheet or just copyin into notepad/wordpad and print. http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/cfr_2003/aprqtr/27cfr478.125.htm or you download this pdf. http://www.surplusrifle.com/graphics/boundbookpage.pdf Either can be used in an organized three ring binder which is suitable as a "Bound Book"
  15. Here is a good source for C&R A&D logbooks that comply with BATF regs. http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.ACCT107430/sc.23/category.349/.f There is a lot to learn to doing this stuff. Thank you to all the members who have helped in pointing things out. Best thing to do is read the regs no matter how boring. Greatest cure for insomnia I have ever run across.
  16. I can vary the burn rate and power plus do multiple passes to vary the depth. The sample I did of the deer on the 2x4 was about 1/16th of an inch doing medium power and medium speed with a single pass.
  17. I like it. It actually is easier to see current activity on the board.
  18. Got the mirrors replaced and burned in my first images. We have lift off! This was simple block text and silhouette images on junk wood. Not much to look at, but sure is nice to see this work after all the troubleshooting and re-engineering. I actually had to cut down one of the "special mirrors to clear the frame. Thank goodness for dremel tools. Downloaded a silhoutte from the internet and used MS Paint to edit and clean. Put on a scrap 2x4. Here you can see the lasers effect on scrap piece of red oak. Image took a little less than 3 minutes to burn. I'll post pictures of the stock related stuff as I figure this thing out. Still a good three or four months from putting a "real" stock in there for customizing. Got a lot of learnin' to do. Darin
  19. Ok, just got my C&R and have my first question on getting copies out for transactions. Some places want a certified and ink signed copy. Other just say need a copy signed in ink. Still others say ink signed copy, but you can fax it in. Which kinda defeats the purpose of sing in ink, but whatever. I am assuming certified means signed by a notary. Are there hard and fast rules on this? Or should I be safe and notorize a bunch of copies and just send or fax them in as required. Anything else that is usually required, like some form or copy of an ID?
  20. If your broadheads are on target consistently after tuning then get your effective shooting ranges sighted in. See if they hold groups then your set. What type of broadheads, fixed or mech? Have you paper tuned to see if your rest is off center and not necissarily the sights. If you have mech they will fly more like broadheads. if fixed you can get a very wide range of flight characteristics depending on the planing surface and your balance point. I prefer fixed to remove the Murphys Law probablity, but they do affect how they fly especially at that middle range of about 25 to 35 yards.
  21. Wow 108. Salute and God bless.
  22. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=137985031 Someone put there thinking cap on. I have a few hundred rounds of Turk milsurp brass that may be a viable option...
  23. This is my first project rifle and didn't know any better on the LaCoruna. It was original until I got ahold of it. Again didn't know any better... Now I do. This one actually appears to lockup nice and tight and there is no forward creep. I have not seen any separated cases from Turk milsurp, commercial or handloads when using this rifle so even though I have not checked the headspace it does not display any of the symptoms (as I understand it). However, what you are saying is not lost. When I pull the barrel I plan on sendig this to Mike for inspection and carburizing along with another action before I rebarrel them.
