Hi Called Mitchells today to order a new K98 and they have all ready sold out of the first batch. The next batch will be ready in 5 or 6 months from now. They sent me a e mail which had new M63 tankers in 308, 30.06 and 243 for $495 and $595 fot the 308. I didn't talk to the guy about them and it is too late to call today but I might call them tomorrow and see if they have any of them. Greg

    New 98 Mausers

Hi I was reading American Rifleman yesterday and they had a artical that says Mitchells Mausers is producing new 98 Mausers in Serbia for $699.00. The ones they had pictures of really looked good. If the price is right I will probally buy one. Greg

    Flash Hider

Hi And I was bitchin about 180 miles. I am just going to have to get tommy to move back here. He can make anything and is a big help on my custom and hot rod builds. I have had him doing work for me for over 30 years and he has allways turned out excellent work and I have never had to send anything back for a redo. The only problem is he will disappear every once in a while and you have to wait for him to come back. Last time he went moose hunting in Alaska and just locked up the shop and didn't tell anyone. Oh well thats the way it is. Greg

    Flash Hider

Hi I have been a mechanic for 40 years and have all the shop tools except a lathe of the right type, however a good friend of mine is a master mechinest[sp?] with a shop. If I buy him a 6 pack and sit there with him and shoot the bull he will do the work for me. He will also tell me if I am out of my mind to try to thread a part on .09 of metal. It is a 180 mile round trip to his shop and back and that is why I wanted to see what everyone on this forum though about the ideal before I tried it. I have 3 barrels to experiment on so if 2 don't work I will still have one good one. Thanks Greg

    Flash Hider

Hi I had allready been to their site which is why I was asking if I would run into any problems with installing the 308 flash hider.I am perty new to these Mausers as the last one I worked on was in Jr high school in 1962 when I sportized a 1891 which was a gift from Frank Cooly for chirstmas. I didn't want to spend the money and then find out it was a mistake. Thank you for the link as I appricate any help I can get. Greg

    Flash Hider

Hi I have been searching the web for 3 days looking for some flash hiders for my 1893 Mauser. I could not find any and was wondering it anyone has threaded their barrel and installed one from a 308 or 7.62 M1A on their Mauser. Thanks Greg

    1893 Receiver

Hi Thanks for the answers. I wasn't thinking of going that route I was just wondering if anyone had seen a blow up. On the M-14 forum site they have a video of a girl shooting a M-1 and it blows up. Impressive, and she was lucky as she didn't get hurt in the explosion. Looked like she set off a garnade in her hand. Greg

    1893 Receiver

Hi I was reading on a site last night when a poster stated he had a 1893 Mauser and was shooting it with a 308 cal. barrel. He also stated he had build several rifles with a 7.62, 308 and other larger then recomended bore sizes for the 1893 and over years of shooting had never had a problem. My question is has anyone ever seen a failure with one of these actions? I know everyone has heard of failures but has anyone actually seen one?. Thanks Greg
  11. Hi This is turning into fun. I would have never thought there was so many different types of parts and work done to these but I guess with a hundred years plus of making these there was bound to be. I am really starting to enjoy this. I needed something to keep me busy in the winter and it looks like this might keep me busy all year. On the bent bolt I guess I will just leave it stright and use one of the rear site scope mounts and a long eye relief scope. I am really greatfull for all the info that I have gotten here. There is really no one around here with the knowledge to help me out. On the bolts I will have to farm them out as I have no clue what I am doing. Thanks Greg
  12. Thanks At least I know what I have in a bolt anyway. I guess I will order the die's so I can forge a bent bolt out of what I have. Thanks Greg
  13. Hi Here are some more pictures. Some are a little out of focus but I don't know how to fix that. Greg
  14. Thanks for the info. Now I am confused. I measured the front ring according to Boydes but don't know if I measured it in the right place. It measured 1.410 if I remember right. The bolt holes in the stock were 7 7/8 inch's apart. Guess it is time to take it to a smith and find out what I have. Thanks Greg
  15. Hi I hoped this worked. I just tried to attach two pictures.Hope they can be of use to you. Greg
  16. Hi The information on the bolts is very interesting. I went on line looking for yugo bolts but was out of luck. If anyone has a bent bolt yugo for sale let me know as I am interested. I went to the turk site and found it interesting. I think I need to order some books with some good pictures so I will know what I am getting myself into. I am going to redo all the metal on the rifle in my shop and probally have it parkerized to make it look like new when I finish. I know it probally isn't worth doing with the value being so low on these but It will be fun. Greg
  17. Hi Thanks for all of the good information. If I understand correctly then I can buy a bent bolt off of a yugo and use it in my turk? The reason I am asking is because I had planned on adding a scope and was going to bend my bolt to fit. If I could buy a yugo bolt it would save me a lot of work. The advice about checking the barrel is a good ideal. I will do that. I was going to have a gun smith do the barrel change because it is a little over my talents. I am a mechanic and not a gun smith. I went to boydes and checked the measurements and it showed I have a large ring reciever. That was the reason for my orgional question as I am not the smartest one in the class. Does anyone know the measurements of the intermediate bolt compared to the standard one? These seem to be a little like the hot rods I build a little of everything else in the build and not all the same. Thanks Greg
  18. Hi I just bought a 1903 Turkish Mauser marked 1937 on the receiver. From what I have been able to find out I have a large ring receiver with a small ring barrel. I was on Boydes site and they market their stocks as a large ring or a small ring. My first question would be what ring size stock should I buy. I was thinking a large ring but wasn't sure if the barrel would match the stock. The barrel on this weapon is the worst I have ever seen. I couldn't even get the cleaning patch to run thou but finally got a brush to go and then was able to use the patch's. Every one came out black after about fifty of them. I then plugged the barell and soaked it with carb cleaner and tried it again. Same result. I then used PB Blaster for 4 hours. Same result. I decided the barrel wasn't going to clean up so am going to install an 18 inch barrel and build a carbine. I have found a very good small ring barrel for $20.00 and was wondering if this would work with the large ring receiver since it is allready a small ring barrel installed in it. I hope I have been clear in my explanation as it is a little confuseing. I haven't worked on a Mauser since JR. High when I sportized my first rifle. Thanks Greg
