I had to take a break from the Mauser. Had to have hip surgery 1/31 and am still recovering. Doing better though. Finally up and moving around without assistance of walker or cane. But am gonna get back to the Mauser soon. Currently I'm off work for a little while longer. This build has inspired me to want to do another. Really learned alot through this site and by doing. I really appreciate the assistance that the folks here have given. Considering for the next build ... maybe an AR15. But gotta get back to work to afford that one.... but its looking very interesting to me. Looking at maybe buying the lower receiver then a kit to put everything else together . Any recommendations?

I have a feeling that they are gonna hit back...extremely hard. Heads are gonna roll starting with Comey, all the way up to Obama and Soros. Draining that swamp... just taking their time about exposing it . Giving them plenty of rope to hang theirselves.

I've been planning to post more pics of this build but my phone up and died , so I cant get any pics right now. I got some Grey stain to do the stock and hand guard . After I got it home I realized what the guy at the store gave me was a stain/poly product. Never had any luck with these ,but tried it anyways...and really don't like the result. Looks more like a grey paint than a stain.. Makes the stock look plastic... so.. unless i can find something else that I'm satisfied with , probably just gonna go with tru oil. I got some Perma blu , turned out great. Couple spots to touch up. But very satisfied with the results. Will try to post some pics soon.

My home is somewhere between 150 - 200 yrs old. Is the planking on the walls and ceiling tongue and groove? We have something very similar in our walls. Tough stuff... will burn a blade up trying to saw through it. We also had some old wallpaper...lol.. cant believe the patterns people liked back then , some really hideous stuff . lol. Gonna be a beautiful place when your done though.

I found a double trigger set up on Ebay.... Whats the purpose of a double trigger?? Another safety ?? never seen that before except older double barrel shotguns.

my gun is a 8mm... good looking bolt body , but it says its for a 7mm... are they the same?? not a bad price either.

I agree with Dr Hess, better to blend it if possible. but I do know of a little trick used on guitars that I picked up from a luthier. I had some chunks missing from a rosewood fingerboard. Solution was to mix some of the rosewood sanding dust with superglue, use as a filler. The superglue is clear, and it makes the repair invisible when sanded. Depending on the area size /depth, may or may not be something you would want to try, but ... its an option.

Most of the guns I currently have were inherited from elders in my family. My brother lost a daughter a few years back and on her urn (its oak) he had her picture engraved. So I'm thinking for someone who is inheriting the gun , it could be a cool memorial to have the deceased persons picture engraved on the stock.

Still a long ways to go , but its cleaning up nice. Got both Barrel bands , trigger guard. Bolt is being elusive. AzRedneck.. you mentioned polishing it, been thinking about doing that. Maybe just the barrel, blue the rest... still making some decisions about how I want it to look.

Basically , this is the before pic. As I found it at the yard sale. Cant really tell here , but its missing both barrel bands, trigger guard and bolt.

I really appreciate the info. I'm no gunsmith by any means . Always liked woodworking , and fixing things/putting things together.Sounds strange but the woodworking thus carried over to guns. I have used the Birchwood Casey cold blue on a 30-30 that belonged to my father in law. It turned out great. As to the Mauser, its cleaning up great.So far I have received the upper and lower bands I ordered. As well as the trigger guard. Waiting on the buttplate. The lower sling swivel is heavily rusted , but should clean up with a dremal tool . The barrel ,I've just hit it with steel wool so far. was holding off on getting the blueing kit til I knew the parts coming would fit. The stock , I've pulled out the band springs to make sanding the stock easier, as well as blueing the small parts. I will post some pics later . But again ,thanks for the info guys. Learning alot here. Very interesting Forum.
