  1. Mike if you get the Lee handles with Saeco moulds you might have to open the hole the screw goes through just a hair. With my two Saeco moulds one fit the Lee handle perfect, the other I had to open the screw hole slightly. You might also try posting in the cast bullet group, somebody may have a deal on used moulds. You might also try RCBS and Lyman's websites. The cast bullet group can probably give you more sources on where to look. http://www.castboolits.gunloads.com/index.php

Thanks AzRednek, I did place a post on the Castboolits link.

    Thanks again,

    Mike

  2. I took a rifle to the range recently with three different loads that I wanted to try, 5 rounds of each. I put up three targets and shot one round from each load at each target, then went back and repeated the process until I had put all 15 rounds down range. That way, I had essentially equal dirt in the barrel for each load being evaluated. I was able to see that one load was clearly better than the other two, so I would say the experiment was successful.

    Thanks for your reply.

  3. Finally got around to building a 22-250 on an 98 action. Took the rifle to the range today to shoot five round groups to find a good load.

After shooting the first group, I got to wondering if I should clean the barrel before shooting the next group of five. I did not clean between the five groups and the best I could get was 7/8 inch at 100 yards.

I need to bed the stock and get a good trigger before I go any further.

Finally, my question is this; How often do you clean your barrel when trying to develop a load?

    Thanks,

    Mike

  4. My first one was with screws and I have put almost a case through it by now with no problems The last two I did were with rivits just so they look more authentic (I can't tell a diference firing either ones). Sonics rivit advice is what I do also. works well.

    Thanks for your replay.

  5. i"ve built both ways ..i use rivets most times now...i no longer remove the barrel ...just drill out the old rivet and use a air hammer to drive in a new rivet..just make sure the rivet is long some that it expands in the hole..and use a modified bolt cutter to mash the mag rivets..you can flair the trigger guard rivets with a center punch.. i"ve used bolts but i like rivets better..

    I appreciate your reply.

  6. i've built a dozen or so using M6 grade 8 button heads. i used m6 because that was the biggest screw i could safely get into the rear trunion on the romi builds. contrary to what some people say i have never had any problems from any screw builds. i have a couple that have more than a thousand rounds through them without coming loose. all i used was blue loctite. hope that helps

I'll give the screws a try.

I was planning on using the NODAK SPUD LLC (NDS-65) reeciver.

    Thanks for your reply.

  7. Thanks for the replies.

After alittle research I purchased a Tantal from Atlantic Arms.

I've had the rifle to the range a couple of times, learning the weapon and sighting in.

Even with my old eyes I can still hit water bottles at a 100 yards and thats good enough for me.

I'm very pleased with the rifle and would recommend it to anyone wanting a accurate and fun rifle.

  8. Mike, since you've stumbled on to those old Herters shellholders, do you have any shellholders for a proprietary Texan press? I've got a dandy vintage Texan Turret but only one shellholder for .473" brass. That covers a lot but I've got 223 and 6.5x55 which have different rims.

Sorry THOR, I don't have anything for the Texan press. I do go to yard sales and flee markets and sometime see different presses. I'll keep you in mind and contact you if I find anything.

  9. I have everything I need to build a 22-250 using a 98 Mauser action but seems like I read awhile back that they may be problems with the magazine. If so what do I do about that and will I have other problems with the 22-250 round?

  10. The stock bolts are probably the only "recoil lugs".

You could make an aluminum bushing/pillar that fits tightly around the stock bolt; that bushing could then be glass bedded into the stock. It will at least check the position of the action in the stock.

Makes sense, I'll give it a try.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  11. I bought an old Herter's press awhile back and it came with a few shell holders and a RCBS shell holder adapter.

Does anyone know what shell holders 27,19, 13 and #5 will fit?

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Clemson for the info.

I checked the model number on this press and its a Super model 3, built like a tank, I use it for heavy work. I sure hated to see Herter's stop making reloading equipment.

    Thanks again

  12. I would like to hear from anyone using a "Lead Sled" to help in load development.

They seem like a good idea on the surface but I was wondering if there were any draw backs that I'm not aware of? I always wonder if that "flyer" was me or the ammo.

Christmas is coming and I thought the "Lead Sled" may be a good item to put on my want list.

    Thanks BradD
