I have no problem whatsoever is defending women against sexual harrassment and sexual assault. I take bigtime issue with his superfluous comments against "homophobia", "feminazis", and feminists not being anti-male.

Also, if this is a mens' issue, which is true in most instances, it's also a female issue. What's been done about all the female teachers who have been caught having sex with male students? When I was in the Air Force a black female who outranked me wagged her tongue through a chocolate-covered donut and said, "Airman Harkin!" Or the females at tech school who walked up to me, stuck their hands under the shoulder pads of my service jacket? So it's not just a male problem.

 

This guy says that if you don't believe in sexual equity (homosexuality) and support feminism you are a failure as a leader. He is addressing Marines.

Errrr... As a Navy guy, us enlisted folks don't/didn't have epaulets/shoulder pads to put hands under. What does that mean? I've never heard of that before.

 

Are the women saying you're hot, gay, misogynistic, or what?

Or for that matter me...the exchange of ideas would have been interesting.

You have never seen me at one of these presentations. : )

 

The principal told me, after the first few, that I did not have to attend them, it would be best if I stayed at school and worked on repairing the computers. Keep in mind that I was a civvie and not under the UCMJ.

Communication is fairly one-way, even if you are allowed to talk. You can vent, but it makes no difference.

 

The best tool is the end-of-class critiques. Writing-down that that material was trash might actually get seen by someone above the instructor level. Be brutal and unforgiving.

In my nearly 20 years as a union officer and hearing numerous sexual harassment complaints. One and only one was legitimate. Most were either imaginary, totally or partially fabricated, communication's problem, just out right stupid or better described as chicken sh!t. I received a written reprimand for sexual harassment after a bull dyke over heard me using the term "queer" to describe a homosexual. The union got the reprimand removed from my personnel file about 6 months later.

I can verify from two deployments in the sandbox that sexual assault is very real in the military. I've seen the results of attacks, coercion, rape, and groping. Threats of retaliation, intimidation, and ostracising are always sure to follow.

 

Most of the events I've seen, as well as read about in the news have one common element: alcohol.

 

Look at the recent disasters at our Navy Academy: an instructor openly engaging in sexual contact with multiple Midshipmen females and three Mid football players sexually assaulting a drunken female shipmate. I always thought that students at academies were buried in regimen and studies. When are they having time to get smashed? Why do they have the time?

 

The most difficult job as a leader is trying to protect people from themselves. I don't get the efforts that folks go through to get booze smuggled into a combat zone; I'm not naive, and I understand it's pervasive, but getting caught is brutal and shameful. How do you tell a young lady that drinking until she passes out in a football frat house is a very bad risk? I'm not blaming the victim, but REALLY?

 

What really sucks about all this is that there are so many great Soldiers, Airmen, and Sailors who are above reproach on the matter of sexual assault and they have to endure yet another round of "you aren't doing enough".

I am by birth and upbringing a gentleman.

Told since boyhood what was proper and what was not.

So I do not excuse abuse or assault by men on women or women on men or upper ranks on lower ranks.

Not done.

BUT only a dam fool PC world thinks that you are going to put 20 and 30 year olds together in a "sex in the City' "Animal House" culture and not get these events. They are trying to recreate the "socialist NEW MAN" who's devotion to the ideal reshaped human nature. It did not work in the USSR or in China and won't work here.

The whole culture encourages feel good sex. Only thing for it is to keep the genders separate. As to drinking, of course they are going to drink, that could not be stopped with a Constitutional amendment. The Navy is "dry" has been for 100 years or more, but I was never on a ship, where the sailors would not trade a drink for a war souvenir.

So. I say women do NOT belong in the military.

I can only partially agree Karl. Women do play a major role in the military but not in combat. Family friends of my parents back in the 50's. The husband and wife met during WW2. Both were the rare flying Sergeants and remained state side for the entire war. Neither flew or had the training to fly in combat but had a vital role of moving a plane from point A to point B.

I got a civilian doctor fired at Ft. Hood for harassing (not touching) a CRNA. She was really a nice girl, and he was a pig. The female nurse OIC was not a happy camper that I went straight to the DCCS (Deputy Commander of Clinical Services). To his credit we never saw that surgeon, who wasn't a good surgeon anyway, again.

It is good when the system works by removing a trouble maker. My biggest problem as a union officer were women using sexual harassment as a crutch, an excuse for less than marginal work or female trouble as the cause of attendance problems. Hard to believe but I had to deal with one woman that had a very obvious pattern of calling in sick the day after her scheduled days off or holidays. Her excuse and this is not in any way exaggerated. Her male manager made her uncomfortable and nervous creating a hostile work atmosphere because he would stare at her butt. She was eventually canned for a phony worker's comp claim.

Wall Street Journal reported today that the Supreme Court ruled that an employee can't file discrimination against someone higher up than them unless they have hiring and firing authority. A victory, I think!

I don't know if it is a victory. Seems to me if a person has the authority to promote or effect one's upward mobility it would also be included.
