spec4 e4
Due to many screw by smiths, I have a 243 on a 38 Turk receiver. I was thinking of blocking the back, shorting the follower and replacing the spring get with a Remington 700 308 length follower spring. Will this spring work? Thanks Rob
Dr.Hess
I don't see why not. I used a spring from a 10 round AK mag once on a Spanish 93 that I converted to 7.62x39. I don't think the spring tension, etc. is all that important. As long as it fits and doesn't bind, it should be OK.
AzRednek
Hi Rob, I'm with Doc. Over the years I've used various mag springs in conventional bolt actions. If it fits, it will work. I've had a couple that the tab on the bottom was a bit to large to fit in the cover. A few seconds on the grinding wheel fixed it. A Remmy ADL in 22-250 I horse traded away recently had a mag spring from one of my junk boxes. Most likely came out of a Mauser or a Jap. The spring tension might be important in a semi-auto but I'm speculating because of my experience with semi pistols. In some of the older 32 autos I've had over the years. If the spring is weak, failure to feed on the last one or two rounds is common.
