Dr.Hess
Did you delete the wrong one? The board will sometimes double post stuff. I think it has to do with internet lags, resends, etc. I'm not a network guy.
ken98k
Okay you've got my attention, tell us more about this Persiantine
aaron10
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=436882065 ok I got this today dont have a clue lagging caused a double post so i Edited this one and the one below dissappeared later on . Well i got this today from gunbroker took a chance cause here in ak Ive seen only like 4 1909 argentines in 44 years being here and I got 2 of them not in the best shape one is original and one is wearing a mint 1908 barrel in 7mm because bore was toast and a buddy built his 404 on the brazilian and I got barrel for free, so now I got a nice stock for it. But the barrel this guy sent me immaculate the bore and chamber are like unfired he told me the customer just wanted the action so he bought the best 1909 he could find so the smith built him a 3006 on it and he had these parts left over. So long story short lol when samco had persian barreled actions I managed to get 2 put away for a rainy day they are mint but bolt numbers dont match actions so I wont feel bad using one. And last year numrich got some persian stocks in so I squirreled 2 of those away too and got bits and pieces buttplates screws etc. So I`m thinking this nice barrel is going to get put on one of those persian actions and the really nice stock I got from numrich its looks like a drop in fit other than gap in stock around the original persian site base but the handguard covers it any way. Rest of barrel channel is the same contour So what do yah think. aaron10
Dr.Hess
That sounds interesting. I'm really liking my 7x57. I've found some load data that is really pretty impressive. You can load a light bullet, like in the 100-120GR range, to well over 3000FPS. I figure that is like double a 223. That is, same velocity and double the mass. E=MV^2, so that would be double the energy. I don't have any bullets that light, but it is still interesting. I was at a Cabelas yesterday. No 22 anything, plenty of 17HMR, plenty of centerfire ammo both pistol and rifle. Besides the 22LR, I'd say the ammo shortage is over for now. Anyway, they had a moderately good powder selection. I think I'll pick up some RL22 to experiment with, and maybe some Norma MRP. Both those have data for a heavy bullet seriously moving in 7x57. Also, there was ONE Mauser on the racks, a 24/47 for $300 and a bunch of Mosins for $200.
ken98k
Sounds like you'll have a very nice rifle when finished. The stock in the gunbroker photo is gorgeous.
aaron10
Yeah I finally got to our new cabelas here was not to impressed same thing 200.00 mosins but the 24/47 `s were 399.00 no way I`ll pay those prices I`m cheap . I almost fainted when I saw a late made p7 H&k in their fancy gun room for 2700.00 I asked em if they would like to buy my first run one for that price LOL. Kenny the persian stock is way nicer just a few dings and dents to iron out its got that crazy like chocolate and black streaked fancy walnut. Numrich did me right on the 2 persian stocks they sent me. I figured Id use the gunbroker one on the 7mm argentine its got only one little chip I need to fix and a few small dents to get out. I figured since the persians show no set back and are in better shape I`d use one of them with that barrel . Both of my F series 1909`s show slight lug imprints inside but it must not be too bad because they extract fine . aaron

I have not made it to Cabela's yet but I was able to check out the Bass Pro Shop in July. Now-a-days I only make it down to Anchorage about once a year. AzRednek
I've been told that many of the 1909's are "soft." From what I've heard but can't say with personal experience. The Argie manufactured 09's are inconsistent. The German mfd 09's are supposed to be one of the best Mauser actions ever made.
ken98k
From what I've heard but can't say with personal experience. The Argie manufactured 09's are inconsistent. The German mfd 09's are supposed to be one of the best Mauser actions ever made. I have a couple German made 1909s and they are without a doubt the smoothest best made Mausers I've ever handled. However, I've been told they tend to be on the soft side. Maybe Don Markey could shed some light on this subject.
donmarkey
I've had a couple with set back. I tend to get any 1909 I build on recarberized. Don

Dr.Hess
So, RHA, (Welcome to The Board...), you bought the receiver that was missing in that auction, and that receiver is what's in your pics there? Very nice. Details? Tell us about the engraving, etc.
ken98k
Doc, I believe RHA was the seller of the actionless rifle. He used the missing action to build the engraved beauty. Wonderful work RHA.
RHA
Doc, I believe RHA was the seller of the actionless rifle. He used the missing action to build the engraved beauty. Wonderful work RHA. Yes, I sold actionless rifle for my MENTOR. I hope the day comes that I can build a rifle as nice as the one pictured, but I did NOT build the one I pictured. IBoth the gunmaker and the client who had the rifle built are good friends of mine. I keep these pictures around to inspire me. This is one I built. Though I think it nice, it still lacks a lot in the fine details.
RHA
Apologies for the hijack. So, RHA, (Welcome to The Board...), Thank you. I have followed along for a couple of years. Signed up a year and a half ago, but hadn't posted anything until prompted by seeing my auction. The OP was great to deal with, so I jumped in. Apologies for the hijack. RHA
Hijack away. We're pretty mellow about that. Beautiful stock on your's. Thank you. I picked up that blank for very little as there was a very bad flaw in the forend. That is why the rifle has such a short forend. Barrel is only 19" long.
