cameleon
Hello all. New guy here. I just picked up my first Mauser. It is sporterized. The bolt is a cock on close type. It has a Dayton Triaster Mark11 2 position safety. What is the procedure to disassemble the bolt with this type of safety? Thanks.
Dr.Hess
Welcome to the board. The bolt disassembly should be the same if that safety is in the same place as the regular safety. Google up Mauser 93 bolt disassembly and you should find lots of youtoobs and web pages.
Dr.Hess
I haven't taking one of mine apart in a while, but this looks to be about right: http://www.uzitalk.com/forums/showthread.php?23622-Disassembling-the-1895-Mauser-Bolt I use the edge of my work bench to pull the sleeve thingie back. cameleon
My safety has only 2 positions. Down, RIGHT is fire. About 1/4 inch up, as if rotating towards left engages safety.
Dr.Hess
Yeah, that is similar to the one I put on my 7MM Spanish 93. It comes apart the same.
cameleon
Thanks for the info and links. I'll give it a shot.
cameleon
Thank you gentlemen. It worked. What I was doing, with bolt out of rifle, was turning the handle down so I could engage safety. Not necessary. Once slot is exposed, like in that illustration, I just stuck an allen key in it. Pressure off. Assy unscrewed. Fp/spring exposed. Removed allen and spring relaxed so I could clean between coils. A little tricky getting allen back but got it. If I ever have to replace fp/spring I'll go further. It does not seem to be a screw type. At least I feel better that I can do normal maintenance. Thanks for your efforts. Dr.Hess
Glad you got it figured out. Taking it the rest of the way out requires pushing in on the firing pin and rotating the piece partially. The threads are interrupted. That's where the block of wood they always talk about comes in handy, or the hole in the M98 stocks.
cameleon
Thanks. By the way when getting it out the rest of the way do I leave my allen in the slot or remove it?
Dr.Hess
I never used the allen or coin trick. I always just muscle them. So, I'm going to go with remove it.
