FC
I looked up the M-1 Carbine history on Wikipedia. Very interesting, including the bunny trail on “Carbine Williams”. Have a look if you get time. I had no idea we had night vision capabilities in WW2.
AzRednek
I saw a M-1 Carbine with the infrared scope at the Rock Island Museum. Kinda cool looking but I got the impression of it being cumbersome. If I recall right the RI display said it didn't see a lot of service in WW2 and was used more in Korea. I didn't see it but a gun club member claimed just the Carbine infrared scope, accessories and original carry case sold at a Phx gun show for two G's. Another member a former Army sniper in Nam claimed he saw the Carbine infrared set-up still being used by Marines and ROK soldiers.
