AzRednek
I was never in the military but I found it strange the soldiers were buried with their dog tags. i can recall my grandfather a WW1 medic talking of exchanging dog tags among other things with German medics. Grandpa was selected to meet with German medics because he understood but couldn't speak it very well the German language. Grandpa was raised in a French speaking family but learned German from his German/Austrian fathe and Grandfather. He communicated with the German medics speaking French but understood enough German as he said in case they tried to pull a fast one. Grandpa claimed the US and French medics were often accompanied by an officer to keep the medics from trading contraband.
