I believe he mentioned using the barrel off an old broken 22 rifle. He didn’t say the source but I imagine the walnut for the grips came from the broken rifle.

My guess it would be easier to cut a safety notch on the hammer rather than trying to make a hammer block. He is rather crafty and clever and could likely do it either way. If it was me, I’d be working on an extractor first.
