Arisaka type 99 bolt bad buy

Ordered a bolt On Gunbroker for a Jap I’ve had for at least 20 years. Just bought bolt body and plan to buy a piece at a time since complete bolts are unaffordable. It got here yesterday and is rougher’n a wood-haulers arse. Won’t gun in action and has vices or Vise Grip marks all over it. Locking lugs don’t align with raceways in action. Finally occurred to me somebody tried to bend bolt without heat. 25.00 plus 8.00 shipping is cheap lesson. Looked good in picture and the cat not once mentioned condition so I’ll take’r on the chin. I’ve made so many buys that turned out better than described I’m not even mule-lipped. Just wish I had another bolt body.

That sucks.  I've got taken a time or two myself.  I'm a lot more careful now.  Fuzzy/dark/poor pics?  I'll pass.  I have a stack of Spanish 1916 barrels now, referred to as "The keyhole makers."  Finally got a good one that came off a Mexican, FN made by the proofs.  Shortened it and crowned it and you can see the rifling at the crown now.  Still needs long flat based bullets to stabilize, but I think that's just part of it for these antique barrels.

I have a beautiful Remington barrel inside and out on the Jap. 99. Would the barrel be rethreaded or action? Would love to save barrel for Mauser project. I bought the barreled action from a member here years ago when Arisaka stuff was dirt cheap.

I was wondering what most common way of putting the REM. barrel on Jap. receiver was. If barrel was re-threaded I’ll sh_t it. Guess I better start researching threads on both or just go ahead and pull barrel. Think I just made my mind up. Don’t really want to sink any money into Arisaka that could go in Mauser.
