weld on mauser bolt help

a friend is wanting help with an M96 bolt mod.. we havbe a tentative plan, to cut off the existing handle and weld it on...then shape... Anyone done this???

BTW I have this very idea in my mind for a Spanish "turned down" bolt

I've done it to a Spanish 93.  I cut the handle off just past the receiver, flipped it over, straightened it out some, then welded it back on.  Here's a pic next to an unmodified Spanish 93 (OK, actually more likely Spansih 1916's):

precisely what I was wanting... Next, maybe "stretch it a tiny bit longer??

One day I will concentrate on some of my lame assed Wood!!! Embarrassed how sad some of my stocks really are!! Maybe this winter!!!

I have3 bolts I cut off and replaced and am going to cut ball off one and weld the shank to another to lengthen it a little then reshape to get it lower and swept back some. Beautiful rifle Dr. Hess. Maybe someday I’ll be there. I’m gonna send pic. of a bolt I just replace for my brother. I copied the length and sweep from his Husqvarna commercial sporter. The bolt is the 12.00 Numrich.
