Horsefly
Somebody heated it red hot and hammered it out flat and down to clear scope.
Dr.Hess
That's creative. And Fire would then be up against the scope, right?
Horsefly
Safe is straight out at 90 degrees. Of all the old hobby gunsmith books I got and all the Mausers I’ve looked at last 45 years have I ever seen a safety done that way.
Horsefly
If you stretch to pic out you can see the crack along top.
Dr.Hess
I was thinking backwards on that. Yeah, to the right (or down) would be fire. I can see the crack. I bet you could weld that back up. Or just buy a new one that fits your build better. It's still interesting.
Horsefly
I changed it out this afternoon right after I took the pics. It’s cool someone used that much imagination. It’s going on display.
Racepres
I got one like that around here someplace.. not stretched that far, and even more contoured to the shroud..I like it alot...in fact been cogitating just How I could do something like it... Horsefly
Me too. I was thinking of cutting almost into to hinge flag down against bolt then re-weld. Maybe Dremel the flag out Dayton Traister MK II style. I’m a lefty and prefer a firing pin blocking safety on left side. Maybe I’ll mock one up this afternoon. Horsefly
Maybe I’ll work on safety some today. Just coming off a 2 week goober hacking cold and have a rifle to finish up for a Christmas gift. With the price of low safeties at around 50.00 I think it’s a good idea to rework issue safeties. Racepres
I hear ya on the cost... I simply do not get all warm and fuzzy about what is available... I feel the handmade stuff can have "Style"... Just Me
