The Israelis tried to purchase a bunch but somebody likely Arab nations ran interference. Although Israel did obtain many they likely had to deal through a third party. I had an Israeli K98 years ago that was re-barreled to 308. The German and Nazi stampings were all over stamped with a checkerboard type stamp.
