I have seen reports that many History books now in use have this wrong.
So: "AMENDMENT II
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
What must be understood, is that the Revolution shocked many Americans who a few years before, saw themselves as loyal English people. They loved the King and admired the Redcoats. The fact that the British government would try and oppress them and that Redcoats would fire on them, would have been unbelievable in 1770.
So when they set up a Constitution, one of the main goals was to insure that the PEOPLE would always have more arms than the Central government. They had been burned once...it was not going to happen again.

From what I have been told by the younger generations and their folks History books have a lot of falsehood in them. They of course have most of our true history removed or rewritten to suit the common goal. That being Socialism or worse. They teach our young that democracy is bad, but socialism is good. Freedom is also bad but constant control and guidance by your government is good. No need to work, you will be provided for. When the government owns you and you have no defense against them, then life as we know it will be no more. Given a few more years of indoctrination their goals will be a reality my friends.

I was talking with a Chinese coworker, from Communist China.  I asked her what happened to people who didn't work.  She said, oh, the disabled, they get a very small amount of money, but they can't live on it, so they must live with a relative.  I said, no, not the disabled, I mean people who just don't want to work and refuse to.  They get nothing and would starve to death.  This socialism the young are being fed will end in tears, as it always does.
