I've always wondered why, when they know a hurricane is bearing down on them, so many people wait until the last minute, then join hundreds of thousands of others to evacuate? Dr.Hess
I think that they generally wait to know how bad it's going to be and where it's going to hit. Forecasts for those are typically all over the place, and after you've evacuated several times for a nothing, you just wait until it is more known. I asked a coworker from the Dominican Republic once how come the DR had no hurricane problems when Haiti, on the same island, was always a disaster. He said that the building code in the DR was such that every house was its own hurricane shelter. Concrete walls and roofs, etc.
FC
Interesting. You can’t easily escape an island. Cubs gets hit a lot; I don’t know how they weather these storms?
karlunity
Still here. Just a little rain so far. Why stay? FC
It didn't rain here as much as the plants and trees needed here on the western edge of the state. Different story at Myrtle Beach.
ken98k
Just imagine 2.5 million people trying to evacuate in electric cars!
Dr.Hess
Yeah, and I wonder what will happen to the electric cars that get flooded. I've read "it's a bad thing."
