old stove

I ran across this picture, and the stove looks like the one my farmer grandma used to cook breakfast, but it wasn't rusty. She used corncobs for fuel. She had a modern stove too, but for some reason she used this one for breakfast. Another world back then.

Just don't see those around anymore.  When I was sailing, I heard of a ship that had either a coal or oil fired stove in the galley.  I heard that stewards and cooks would come onboard, look at it and leave immediately.  I sailed on some real rustbuckets.  Oldest was a jumbolized T2 Tanker build in 1945.

Similar stoves are still available but they are outrageously expensive.
