Stoning the Receiver

Recommended Posts

You will recall from previous photos that my 98/22 receiver was loaded with "salt & pepper" corrosion. I took an hour today to stone the front ring to see what I could do with that corrosion. I was able to clean up all but a couple of the deepest pits. I could have taken them out, but it would have taken quite a while. Since my plan is to bead-blast this metal work prior to bluing, I felt OK with where I stopped. If you will look carefully at top dead center on the front ring, you can still see the military index mark. I didn't bother to take that out either.
