roscoedoh
I'm guessing this is the I-69 thing? Super Highway Website
fritz
The Texas portion of that fiasco is the Trans Texas Corridor-35. It follows the present I-35. The one that is less likely to come about is the Trans Texas Corridor-69, which basically follows U.S. 59 and runs from east Texas to Mexico. In the eyes of those with their eyes to the sky, let there be a big flock of seagulls overhead. That should slow them down for a few years while they file all the necessary environmental impact papers. Long live seagulls! At one of the first public meetings held on the project, here is Grandma's opinion--- Clint Winters, a representative of the state’s top fiscal officer, Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn, spoke first, telling the audience that Strayhorn calls the project a “Texas-Trans Catastrophe that needs to be brushed off the books.” Clint Winters represented Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn at the meeting. “Texas property belongs to Texans, not foreign companies,” Winters relayed from the Texas Comptroller. Strayhorn also called the Trans-Texas Corridor “a property tax problem of the worst kind.” The fear voiced by Winters and others in the audience is that taking the land required to develop TTC-35 off the tax rolls would place an addition burden on schools, local governments and the remaining landowners. fritz
