BEJ
I have a nice 91/30, round receiver, with a barrel that slugs .313. I was considering a .308 barrel to replace the old one. Any thoughts ??
gun nutty
Many inexpensive .308 cal barrels out there. You could probably even use an A&B LR .308 barrel and clean out the chamber to 7.62x54R. Threads SHOULD clean up. Haven't done the math. Chamber reamers on on the reamer exchange. You'll have to mill the extractor cut. Have you shot the barrel with .312 bullets? If it shoots good, why re-barrel?
BEJ
Well, it shoots around 5" @ 100yds, with the Hornady .312 bullet, which is reasonable to me. The chamber on this gun seems to be huge. I thought going to .308 would give me a wide variety of bullets from which to choose. Thanks for the response. RGRWJB
It may be less expensive to just buy a whole new gun.
fmsniper
It may be less expensive to just buy a whote new gun. Lather walther made me a brand new target barrel for my fin 39, heavy profile
cosmo05
Is your barrel counter bored? If not, try recrowning it. Also make sure the screws holding the action to the stock are tight. I have rifles that slug out to .313 and shoot 2-3 inches using .312 Hornady soft points.
