Brownells Barrels

Has anyone had a chance to try out one of the Brownells barrels for the Mauser 98s?

Brownells barrel

The price looks right. About the same as A&B's. Not a huge selection of calibers, but Midway appears to be paring down the selection too.

A side question. Will a 243 short chambered barrel clean up to a 6mm Remington?

No, the .243 chamber will not clean up if you rechamber to 6mm Rem.

At that pint I'd think that the Shaw barrel would be the better option. They will chamber & thread for about the same as a barrel & reamer rental will cost. Quality ought to be roughly the same.

I have one in 25.06. Shoots 1/2 to 3/4 at 100yds. I called and talked to brownells tech support and found out that they are made by Shaw. Hope this helps.

They also carry a line of Brownells / Shilen short chambered barrels.

Just a suggestion, Sportsman's Guide sells Shaw barrel kits. Barrels are blued and come with headspace gauges. Also come with a gurantee from Shaw, if you can't put it in they will for no charge at least on the Savage barrel I bought, I never looked for Mauser though, it might not be available.
