tinkerfive
I was looking for the 1/4-22 taps and dies to clean up action screws and pockets. Seems that Brownells is the only one that I can find that has them. Didn't actually check on the die but they do have the tap. I don't necessarily have anything against Brownell it's just that I have this genetic thing being of Scottish decent in that I feel compelled to comparison shop. So does anyone know any other source for the 1/4-22 tap & die? And while I'm asking any source for the bolt stop screw? Thanks!!! donmarkey
Brownells is the only source I ever found for taps and dies in 1/4-22. But check out this for ejector box screw info. http://www.sporterizing.com/index.php?show...mp;hl=bolt+stop -Don
machinist1
Ditto on Brownell's being the only place I could find a 1/4-22 tap. The only thing is their tap is the 60 degree thread form. But it works. I crossed the first thread on my VZ24 project. Striaghtened right up.
Guest Stephanovich
I've seen both the taps and dies listed in catalogs for the machining industry. On my desk, I have a Rutland Tool and Supply catalog (www.rutlandtool.com) and they list the die (part #21080167) @$12.71 but no listing for the tap. They are available, you'll just have to look for them. My 2 kopecks, ...Stephanovich..

I was in on that discussion but had never tried the 4MM screws. I made a couple of acceptable screws from 4MM .7 screws. The threading is close, I tried running one of the 4MM .7 screws into the ejector box and it went just about enough to start to exit the female threads on the ejector box. So once the threads were removed from the shaft of the screw I was left with just enough so that the head of the screw would tighten down. Note; I threaded a nut tight up to the head of the screw before removing the threads from the shaft. After smoothing the shaft and pointing the end the nut was removed leaving just enough thread for the ejector box. Tinker
