AzRednek
Any tips, tricks or suggestions on installing a recoil lug cross bolt. I did one, more precisely screwed one up about 20 years ago and got it off center and wound up with about 1/4 inch layer of glass between the lug and cross bolt. Clark
I have not done this with heavy recoil cartridges, but it does help accuracy, I take out the cross bolt and fill the voild wit glass.
Doble Troble
I haven't done one myself...and so I have no expertise... But Roy Dunlap in Gunsmithing describes a method where he uses clay to make a model of where receiver fits into the stock. He then measures to locate the top forward point of where the bolt should meet the receiver, and transfers this measurement to the side of the stock. Then you drill out undersized and use small chisels to fit the bolt through. He liked to use a rectangular piece of aluminum which resulted in a little aluminum rectange appearing on the side of the stock.
