As to my previous post,I said that the revolver was a Colt Commander. It should have read Colt Commando. According to "Colt An American Ledgend" byR. L. Wilson, the Commando is identical to the Colt Offical Police with a few exceptions. The Commando was designed during WWII for the US government. It was allocated to Police departments, guards of factories serving the war effort, and other nonmilitary functionaries. The Commando was refind downward to increase production. Only 50,617 were made, starting with serial no. 1. It has a dull parkerized finish with Coltwood grips. All were 38 special. Aother variation is the Marshal.

This is some information I found if anyone is interested.
