Sailormilan2
Since I had nothing to do yesterday, I decided it was time to rebuild my portable shooting bench. I need to sight in some rifles next week, and the old one had seriously fallen apart. I had rebuilt the old one once before, and I did not have enough plywood to properly rebuild it. So, it was a bit undersized. I decided the new bench needed to be bigger. I went from 25"x36" to 36"x48", and it is about 1 11/16 thick. New bench is 2 sheets glued ands screwed together(both sheets were a bit bowed). Since I have a lefty son, the bench is cut for use on either side. The legs are just some surplus 1" pipe, 33" long. They screw into pipe nipples welded to 4"x4", and bolted to the bench with 2 1/2" 5/16" bolts. I went from round headed carriage bolts, to standard. I prefer the carrage bolts, due to their smooth profile, but after they have been in the bench for a while and the wood dies/shrinks they loosen. The bench is a bit heavy, probably weighs about 40 lbs, but I don't have to worry about wobble. I tend to over build.
Ron J
That looks up to the job for sure. Wobble? I wouldn't shoulder the rifle that would wobble that!
