9.3X62Mauser Vs. 35 Whelen

I have a 98 action I am rebarrelling and am trying to decide between 35 whelen and 9.3 x 62 mauser. Both will fit the original 8mm box because the cartridge length is within acceptable specs. I had decided on 35 whelen because it was basically a necked up 30-06. However 9.3x62 mauser seems more fitting for the gun and the barrel costs are compareable. bullets, as I am a reloader also are within a couple dollars of each other per hundred.

Anyone have any information or opinion that could help in this decision?? Thanks

How is the bullet selection and availability between the 9MM and the 9.3 MM?

You say that the 9.3 is a more fitting choice but remember the 9x63 (very similar to .35 Whelen, close enough to be almost indistinguishable) is an old European cartridge, that pre dates the .35 Whelen and would also be fitting in a Mauser.

I prefer the 9.3x62. Has worked well in Africa for over 104 years. Better heavy bullets for the 9.3's. You can get up to a 320 grain pill.

I'm working on a 9.3x62 right now and starting to get gushy over it. Everything for it is readily available, brass costs more than 35W, but check Graf's. More 9.3 bullets than you would ever guess. Tons of loading data.

I'm with Mike on this one.
