need to know.... what is the difference in 8x57js and 8mm mauser ammo? can i shoot js thru a 8mm mauser? is it the same? am i just stupid? it definitly looks different. i dunno! help a new guy out. thanks jeffturk.

The 8x57J was the original round for the 1988 comission rifles by Mauser. They had a nominal bore of .318.

The later 8x57JS has a bore of .323 and is loaded to much higher pressure.

Unless you have an original unmodified bore pre 1904 mauser you can use the 8x57JS.

The 8x57JS as sold here in the US is commonly known as the 8mm Mauser round.

No you are not stupid or you wouldn't have asked. The only stupid question is the one that went unasked.

so in my k.kale.... 8mm mauser only. no js. wait. i went back and re-read. i can use js ammo. jesus i am stupid. :)

Both they 8x57j and the 8x57js are commonly refered to as 8mm mauser.

Just be aware of what your fifle is.

American made sporter 8x57js ammo is loaded to lower pressure too help prevent bad things from happening when shot through a 8x57j chambered rifle.
