How Well Did I Do?

Got a trade today from a young die-hard Mauser lover. I traded away a K Kale and bayonet I restored a couple years ago. I put allot of work into the Mauser when I was down due to illness and had to put my hands and mind to work. The Mauser was completely degreased, cold blued, bolt polished real bright and the wood was sanded smooth, stained and re-finished. It was a good shooter with a bright and shiny bore and the issue sights were really compatible with surplus Turk ammo at long range. I considered it more of a show piece though than a shooter.

I got a 45ACP Ruger P90 for of the Mauser and 50 cash. He was looking for allot more cash but tossing in a greasy bayonet, an unknown type of mil-surp sling and a half a bandoleer of Turk ammo on stripper clips seemed to soften up his negotiations. He reminded me allot of myself in my early 20's only it were Springfields and Enfields I wanted. In the early 70's Mausers were more common than Mosin-Nagants are today. Seems like I got the better end of the deal but the young guy was grinning ear to ear with pride as he handed the Mauser to show his buddy after we completed the deal and shook hands.

The Ruger seems to be in good shape, not showing much use or any holster wear. Just simply to hot here to go shooting. Dove season begins in a couple of weeks. I'll give it a test run at dusk when hopefully early morning temps are below 90 on opening day.
