Sailormilan2
I have 3 Mauser receivers I plan on getting heat treated. Two because I am going up in caliber(to big magnum...375 Ruger and 458 Win Mag) and one because I need to weld up some deep stampings in the front ring. I phoned Blanchards in UT who gets lots of recommendations. While the cost was very reasonable, they turned me off when they said they would not ship the receivers back to me, but to a local FFL dealer that I would specify. They further went on to say this was not a legal requirement, but their own internal rule. Well, that means I will have to pay at least $50 to register these receivers(one dealer wanted $25 per receiver) and pay $35 for a background check as well. Plus, then they sit in "jail" for 10 days. These receivers are in my bound book as C&R already. I have now called Pacific Metallurgy to see what their policy is and I am now waiting for a return call. But, BradD, who recommended them said that he has sent stuff to them and they sent it directly back to him. My understanding of the law is that firearms can go directly to a repair facility and directly back, and do not have to go through a dealer. So, Blancahrd's may have lost my business forever. Rojelio
Mine, too!!
donmarkey
They shipped mine directly to me also but that was several years ago. Many firms/people have issues with CA's gun laws so I wonder if that's an issue. Last time I sent one to z1r and let him handle it along with some of his. Sailormilan2
AFAIK, there are no issues with CA laws. Even the dealer registration law does not affect private sellers or people with a C&R. Like they said, it wss not a legal requirement, but rather their internal policy. Sailormilan2
I contact Pacific Metalurgy, and here is their reply for pricing and shipping: For mausers we charge $125.00 lot for both bolt and receivers you can get about 10 bolts and 10 receivers for that price if you have any more laying around you want done with these. We heat treat the the Tom Burgess method where the bolt is 45-48 and the receiver is 33-36 unless you tell us different. And we can send them back as long as it is not a P.O. box..........Jim

ken98k
So why use ups? That's probably who Pacific uses for all their shipping.
