Recommended Posts

I have what I believe is a Norwegian Krag year 1883 and 1914 marked on barrellwith two crown marks on barrel also, .084 on bolt,1883 is on the but stock and triger guard also large hole on front of triger guard. Have leather sling with gun. Stock top has been cut off at front ring and bottom 2 1/2 in fron ring. Can enyone tell me what I have and cal and value? If I can get a stock. Has been in house since the war. Thanks all info would be helpful.

As for Caliber it is 6.5 swede/6.5X55MM. As for a stock do you want a Military replacement or an after market stock? A Military I would suggest you go to a gun auction site daily because I have never seen one without the remainder of the Rifle attached for sale. After market stocks might be found Richards Microfit in the San Fernando Valley Ca. or Great American gunstocks in Yuba City Ca. An American Krag will not fit as the action is shorter on the Norweigan. If you rebarrel remember it has to be something Low pressure, about 44,000 psi max.

If the only thing that has been altered is the hand guard, you might be better off finding a replacement and "restoring" it. Even in pieces, the rifle might have significant collector value.

I'd get a rough value of its worth before chopping. If you can get some money out of it, sell it; then you can buy a glorious "beater" for glorification.
