cavebehr
Are there any companies that sell barrels to be put on an Arisaka, or might I have to buy a blank and go from there. Also, could a Type 38 barrel be put on a Type 99? - Thanks
gun nutty
Both actions use left hand threads. Many 'smiths shy away from them. The actions use different threads. 14 TPI for the 38, 16.93 TPI for the 99. You can get away with 17 TPI for the 99. Someone on here can probably help you. ken98k
Have you checked with ER Shaw? http://www.ershawbarrels.com/e-r-shaw-custom-barrels.php
mp6.5
E.R. Shaw will sell barrels threaded for the Arisaka in 14 and 17 threads per inch. Left handed, I'm not sure about that. The biggest problem in my mind is all the cuts and Machine work that is needed to finish the job. I would rather fit a barrel to a Pre 64 Winchester or Springfield. The Japanese designed a Crude but Strong action. I have a couple of them waiting for me to punish myself when the time is right.
cavebehr
Hmmm $170 for an E.R. shaw barrel plus some fitting by me, or have them do it for $285. The benefit is a more valuable gun, and I can do whatever caliber I want. The bad part is how much that will cost. Tough choice. i'm really only doing the gun for knowledge's sake. gun nutty
I stand corrected on the LH threads then. For some reason I was thinking something was left-turning on the rifle.
mp6.5
Gunny Nutty. The only Left Hand Threaded Action I Know I have encountered is the Norweidgan Krag. Not that there are no others, that is all that I found.
