rdm1962
Is there a trick to sweating off the rear sight on a mauser. The front sight came off really easy. I held benomatic torch on it for 5 minuets. It didn't look like the heat was getting evenly distributed. Should I just keep the heat on it longer? Would it be best to use 2 torch's? Any help in this matter would be a big help. Thanks Ralph
donmarkey
Shouldn't take that long with a propane torch. Did you remove the set screw? Don
CurtInAtl
My 1916 with Lange Vizier sight had a blind pin rather than a screw.

If you put too much heat in one spot the barrel will bend.
911rat
+1 to what everyone else said. Make sure the pins and or screws are removed, even heat, and you'll probably see the solder soften around the edges.
rdm1962
Thanks guys. I got it off. I removed the range slider. The heat was able to be more evenly distributed. I don't think I gave it enough time the first go around. Ralph
