  1. The head is a seperate peice on the 95 M bolt. riceone
  2. Thanks, I'll get back after I do it. riceone
  3. Clark, I want to put an 8x57 barrel in a 95M Steyr action. How can I close up the bolt face for the rimless cartridge. Would it be feasable to tig weld a rim around the face then machine it out for the rimless case? riceone.
  4. I have talked to a couple of places that re-line barrels. I have a 30-30 that I would like re-lined to 25-35. The cost I have been quoted is $250 to $300. The reason I am inclined to re-lining instead of re-barreling is I would like to keep the vintage look of the old barrel. I do a lot of odd and hard things but looks like re-rifling would be very very difficult for all the reasons stated. riceone.
  5. I have a soft place for 1917 Enfields. My first decent rifle was an Enfield that I put a Bishop stock on and sent the rifle to Weaver in El Paso and they cut the ears off and mounted a scope. I guess I could hit better with it than any rifle I have owned. The rifles are nice. riceone.

    Too Much Head Space

If you do not have anything to measure head space with, why do you think something wrong? A little too much headspace is not something that will hurt you or your rifle. What are the signs you are reading to think you have excessive headspace. riceone.
  7. The "Bible" on Japanese rifles is "Military Rifles of Japan" by Fred Honeycutt. You can order a copy directly from him for $42 post paid and here is the address. You won't be able to put it down when it arrives. riceone. Fred Honeycutt 5282 Ridan Way Palm Beach Gardens, Fl 33418-6029.

    Too Much Head Space

You can adjust your resizing die to leave the shoulder a little further out and that will correct your headspace. riceone.

    Too Much Head Space

Friend of mine had a 98 he wanted the headspace shortened on and I did it for him. We used three factory cartridges as a gauge. When all three chambered with no drag we were home. I would not have gone to the trouble if it had been mine but then it wasn't. If you reload you can correct it without setting the barrel back. riceone. Z1, I have moved a few sights and not been very successful in getting them back to shoot like before. Maybe someone can give me a solution. riceone.

    Too Much Head Space

Setting the barrel back the correct amount is easy. Re-orintatning the sights is not. How much excessive headspace do you have and what is it causing? riceone.
  11. Put my reply at the wrong place, looks like it will take me a bit to learn. riceone.
  12. Your rifle is a 35th series made gy Toyo Kogyo, Hiroshima Prefecture. It should have a welded safety instead of the serrigated one. Does the numbers on the root of the bolt handle, firing pin and safety match the serial number on the rifle? riceone
  13. I don't know Mark but I do know that anyone who writes and will not sign his name is not due the time of day. Unregistered if you can't or won't sign you name don't post. riceone.
  14. Is there a reason for blueing the receiver and barrell before putting them together. riceone
  15. Thanks, I talked to a guy in state of Washington who will do it for around $250. think I will send it to him. There is a little more to it than I though - some work has to be done on the feed rails. They can also bore out to 38/55 if anyone is intersted.
  16. Some months back I posted about re-lining a 30-30 to 25-35 and some gentleman who post here offered to do it for me for a price. If he is reading this please email me at riceone@bellsouth.net. Thanks, riceone.
  17. I have three Series 11 and two Series 10' that were made after your rifle. Looks like to me yours is a 7th? Anyway they all had cruddy bores till I ran a patch through them and they too had grease and dirt in them. I don't beleive they have ever been fired either. You have a nice rifle. I like that safety. riceone.
  18. I have made my own knife handle types for a couple of mine. I started with a piece of 5/8" round or square and headed and beat it into the shape I wanted and then filed and sanded. riceone.
  19. I'm glad to see someone besides me appreciated Japanese sporters. They are very neat with no excess baggage. If you want to put a scope on one the safety needs no alterations, just the bolt handle. riceone.
  20. Just wanted to see if I could post a picture. riceone. Hey! it worked.
  21. Where is the Japanese Forum? riceone
