  1. Also it's the method of threading, most people cut a relief cut in the barrel instead of cutting off the first thread in the receiver. That weakens the barrel, not a problem with large rings but could be with high pressures and small rings. -Don
  2. Turned out fantastic. Now there's some real talent! -Don
  3. Other than a sunny hill or blackburn custom guards, both well worth the price if the rest of your rifle is the same quality, you can't beat a argentine guard. You'll have to do the recontouring and fitting of the floorplate yourself, but to me that's part of the hobbie I enjoy(anyone can buy a rifle). The first few I did with a hacksaw and file. Parts aren't hard to come buy if you look enough. Latches are easily made or cheap to buy (under $10). The only big expense other than the guard itself, is the floorplate ($75-100) depending who made them and the finish. See my post in "For Sale" -Don
  4. Corelite stock usually sell on ebay for more than Midway's retail price. Sell it and get what you want. Don
  5. Z, from the looks of the last pic, the handle is just about flush with the stock, without the stock notched. Is that right? Don
  6. Thanks Z, I can't seem to find a bolt handle I'm happy with so I was going to weld up a couple turk bolts with different styles to see what I like and was looking for a place to start. Ever since getting a wheatherby with a 55deg bolt lift, I seem to bang my scope with all my mausers. Don
  7. I know bolt handles are kind of a personal preference. But does anyone know the traditional angle and length used in butterknife style handles. How tight should they be to the stock when closed? Don
  8. I have a set on my 270 and I haven't had to resight it yet. Scope been off a couple dozen times. Don
  9. 35 an hour? Hired you're cheap! Don
  10. You can look up anyone's driver's license in the US. Don http://www.license.shorturl.com/
  11. It's a latch kit, includes the pin and spring. Don
  12. Speaking of buttery actions, how do you normally treat the insides of the action? Don
  13. Z will answer, but it's Jim Wisner that has them. They're not on his sight but call or email him. The number is 1909FP. They're about $70 with latch. They're also oversized so they require some fitting, only takes about a hour with a good file. Don
  14. A while ago there was a post that askes if anyone was interrested in "slicked up triggerguards", the post was on the old forum, long gone. But the guy from Sporter Express made a few posts about it, I think he got one. You might try emailing him if that's the post you were thinking of. Don Z1r, I'm interrested in more info on those release buttons, I've tried the FN style, but the button is too small. Can't work it with gloves on.
  15. anyone make 2 piece mounts for a 1917 winchester? Or am i stuck with machining blank bases? Don
  16. Trader Joes? They opoened one about 10 miles from me. Now I.m going to have to go see what you're talking about. Up here we never heard of them. Don
  17. I've cut the knob off of a forged handle and welded a cut off handle from another bolt to it with no problem. Angle it where you want the sweep, if any. Don
  18. How much discount? Do you have fouling problems with shaw like you do a&b? Don
  19. I bought one of those cheap ones on ebay (sold it the next week). With the FN do you have any modifications you have to do to the shroud, like you do for the dayton? Where to you find them nowdays? Any one have any tricks on installing a chapman, Steve Wagner's site has some good pics and info. With the chapman or wisners you don't get the bolt lock feature, right?
  20. Lets hear everyone's opinion on safeties. What you you like/dislike. I'm looking for input on 2 and 3 position side swing safeties (what makes) and other low scope options (timmey and dayton). I won't build another rifle with the piece of junk trigger mounted safeties. Don
