GREED !!!!!!! I hear none of the politicians or the news media mentioning that as a factor. All they talk about is supply and demand. Up to a point that may be true but I am convinced that Greed is a major factor. Period.

I know I'm old fashioned but I like the white spacers. I know they are despised by many but to each their own I suppose. It looks good to me. Nice job.

Anyone ever have something like this before? I am having a similar problem on a sporterized (by a previous owner) Brazilian intermediate action. I have not got into checking it out yet but the problem could be the same as yours. Some lapping compound in the appropriate area might solve the problem. Mine is difficult to close (no barrel installed) and even harder to open after dry fired. I am going to remove the firing pin spring and reassemble and try it to see if the cocking and uncocking could be the problem or if it is simply in a bind like yours.

That's a very nice looking rifle. I was wondering: 1. How are you fitting the Ruger magazine to the Mauser action? 2. How are you addressing the bolt face size difference? 3. How are you addressing the extracter and ejecter difference? It's a very interesting project. I have thought about something like this myself. Seems that the 98 action is big and overkill for such a small cartridge but it is something different and I like it. I don't usually like thumbhole stocks and laminates but your rifle has changed my mind entirely. Please post more pictures when it's finished or work progresses.

I am considering a purchase of a Mosin. I know very little about them so I have some questions. Because of my eyes a scope will be a must and hence a different stock with a higher comb. I know about the bolt issue and will follow Steve Wagners tutorial on that part. Do any of the cheaper Mosins have better cosmetics and metal finish than the others? Other than barrel length, are any of the Mosins better suited to a sporterizing re-work of this type than others? I will shorten the barrel to 23" or less. I am thinking of a cheap deer rifle that I don't have to worry about getting banged up a little. I understand that these guns can be good, cheap shooters but in my opinion, the ones I have seen are cosmetically ugly as sin. I have to do at least a little for the aesthetics.

I think we should boycott any business that participated in this or knowingly uses illegals. I am for legal imigration but not for illegal criminals that are sucking our country down.

Dave, the way women are these days you probably got off easy. Speaking of upseting the wife though reminds me of a time years ago that I was working the third shift. (AKA "graveyard shift") I would sleep in a spare bedroom upstairs in the house for some quiet. One day the wife and kids (still home at that time) were downstairs and playing the TV real loud and banging things around. I yelled down a couple of times for them to quiet down but they didn't even hear me. Finally after trying for a long time to get some sleep I had had enough. I got up and started jumping up and down on the floor and then I got a brainstorm (or short circuit maybe) and I got my old bowling ball out of the closet and rolled it down the stairs. Yeah, I got her attention allright. She was mad at me for a week.
