StuffIt
I have a Yugo 24/47 that I am sporterizing. The military barrel looks to be new and I would like to keep it. After removing the sights I plan to shorten and recrown the barrel. Here is my question, after removing the rear sights there are two holes where the screws were, what is the proper way to fill them? I assume that a soft anealed screw put back in and peened over then smoothed but wanted ideas. There is also dimpled writing on the end of the barrel stating 8mm and other info, can this be removed by turning it without affecting the performance? Any advise would be appreciated. donmarkey
Yes that is a good way to handle the hole and the stamping is generally shallow so I wouldn't worry about affecting anything by turning it off. Actually most mil barrels handle recontouring pretty well. Is is usually just the low quality commercial barrels like a&b and shaws that don't like being turned. But every barrel is different.
