tinkerfive
The Siamese 98 discussion above in sporterizing reminded me about coming across some Chinese 98's at a gun show. I'd heard that China made a contract purchase from Germany then copied them. The ones I saw were made in China. They had a 'swastika' looking proof mark on them. At least that is what the guy selling them said it was. So are they better or worse than the Spanish stuff everyone says to stay away from? Might you buy one for sporting purposes or would you keep on walking? Tinker
AzRednek
The Chinese Mausers are at best wall hanger quality or to fill a gap in a Mauser collection. There is just no way I'd shoot one. I've heard some of the Chinese Mauser bayonets are collectible because of their unusual markings and hand made crude appearance.

I have one of the "contract" vz24's.. they seem to mostly be marked 1937 on the ring [no crest]. MV
