about taking a 7x57 mauser barrel and rechamber it to .280 ackley improved??? would this be to much material removal for a small ring mauser?? or would a 7x57 mauser ackley be better... or... last but not least.. just leave it alone. thanks guys, brian.

Many 7 X 57 to 280 have been done on large ring actions.

If you are on a small ring action, you'll want to stick with

7 X 57 and it's original pressure loadings.

A 280 is a high pressure round to start with and the 'improved'

version a scoch higher yet.

A small ring action is not made for those pressures.

Hmm, I posted last night but it seems to have disappeared into the ether.

Ditto what Tinker says. Use the 7x57, have fun, save money, shoot more.

If it were a 98 then what you are considering would be much more tempting.
