donmarkey
So you're going to The Big Island only? I think so. It'll be a wed-sunday trip, but coming from Detriot wed and sun will be lost to travel. So that doesn't leave alot of time. I should have all the details in a couple months. -Don
FC
Akaka Falls (425 foot waterfall). Hawaii Volcanoes National Park: Chain of Craters Rd., The cauldera (see at night too), Thurston Lava Tube. You might be able to see the lava spill into the water from the east side of the park, but it's a lot of trouble. Mauna Kea (I could only get to 11,000 ft. before the car said, "No more buddy!" Scary drive above the 9000 foot station on dirt road. You can use their somewhat big telescopes at night at that level. Parker Ranch area (kind of expensive around there, but pretty). The highway north of there if you want winding mountain roads in the country. The road between Waimea (Parker Ranch) and Hilo. The scenic road north of Hilo is nice, but don't go to the botanical garden- costs a fortune! South Point (warning- it's a one lane asphalt road). Goes to the southernmost point of the U.S. You'll need a light jacket and cap/hat. Never get low on gas, especially to the south and west.
