User names and how you came up with them
jasonthehunted replied to Horsefly's topic in Chewing the Cud
mines pretty boring but Ive used it as a nickname for almost 20 years, it goes back to highschool when me and a buddy of mine worked at Sears, couple of my bosses were always looking for me , and I was always conveniently not around..... So my buddy just called me Jason the Hunted, when they were hunting for me. Name stuck, and at least I like it. -
8/10 Im not familiar with the russians

are you sure you re assembled the bolt correctly? I learned the hard way on my mauser bolt that theres a right and wrong way to re assemble it. Both will look right but only one will work as advertised.

steve wagner has this link http://www272.pair.com/stevewag/muzzle/mz.html dont know if thats the same one in question but you can always count on steve

is this becasue of fire forming?

glad your better. as to a follow up shot, its actually not bad, I tried it out at the range after I did it. Its a little longer than a standard handle and moves very well. Im sure if I had to hit it really hard with my palm, Id probably think twice before trying a second time. but as for a standard quick lift, its good. A friend wants me to make him one with a standard ball on the end. That will probably look better than a nail head.

well I will say the picture doesnt do it justice, it actually looks pretty good in person, It wasnt supposed to be a permanent deal, but I liked how it turned out so Im sticking with it. I made a couple of other more contemporary handles that will go on other projects. As long as my comebacks dont offend anyone, I tend to not be offended by critisism.

you can try licking it out, probably your best bet

heres my new Bubba Bolt Handle, simple yet different

Im not sure the name of it, but I use an automotive grade adhesive remover or degreaser, its like paint thinner, I have access to a lot of it, my family owns an autobody shop so its handy. Might check any automotive paint store or probably cheaper to run down to the local hardware store.

make sure the metal is CLEAN, I mean really clean. ANd make sure that you dont have it to smooth or the paint wont stick as good. Thats pretty much it.

When does a C&R stop being a C&R???

thanks -
that rifle definately is very nice!!!!

I know Skaggs Gunsmithing does them for around $55 including the lapping and headspacing and all. My buddy uses him alot.

well if he already has a 30-06 for deer, then I would go with a 22-250 for the varmints. Of course 25-06 is my favorite cartridge, so I would also advise to get the 22-250 then sell the 30-06 for a 25-06

Im looking to get a C&R soon. Now are barreled actions eligible to be sold as C&R or do they have to be entire rifles? -
adn I want to be a great Bubba

Im building up 3 turks at the moment. I know that not everyone is crazy about turk actions, BUT they are cheap and I can use remington barrels and turn them myself. What are some of the "bad" characteristics of the turks though. Ive heard several times turks not being very popular, but I dont recall any specific reasons given. Im still fairly new at this and any info is as always...appreciated.

thanks, its a Czech vz24 action with a 24" parker hale 243 varmint weight barrel, bold trigger with side safety, Sims buttpad and I used KG guncoat stainless to finish the metal. The bolt handle is a homemade job basically used an old steel rod and added a bunch of molten steel to it then grinded down and shaped it on a drill press. Ive shot a .324 5 shot group with it at 100 yards with handloaded 55 grain nosler ballistic tips. It will get close to if not pass 4000fps with that load. I now pretty much stay with 100 grain sierras with it now.
